HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 is coming this April, but when exactly might the sophomore season debut? HBO hasn’t revealed the exact date yet, but fans believe they’ve worked it out (via GamesRadar).
New episodes in The Last of Us Season 1 debuted on Sunday nights, which, if that formula holds for Season 2, would mean it could premiere on April 6, April 13, April 20, or April 27. Another popular HBO show, The White Lotus, debuts its third season on February 16 and wraps up on April 6.
It stands to reason that HBO wouldn’t air the first episode of The Last of Us Season 2 and the finale of The White Lotus Season 3 on the same day. If that’s the case, then that leaves April 13, April 20, or April 27 for The Last of Us Season 2 to debut. Fans believe The Last of Us Season 2 could debut on April 13, giving HBO an opportunity to end one highly anticipated show and begin another one without any weeks off.
Of course, this is all just speculation and conjecture at this point. Fans will have to wait for HBO to announce the official date for The Last of Us Season 2.
What is confirmed, though, is that The Last of Us Season 2 will adapt some of the events of The Last of Us: Part II and introduce characters from the game, like Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), Jesse (Young Mazino), Dina (Isabela Merced), and Isaac (Jeffrey Wright). Pedro Pascal returns as Joel, while Bella Ramsey comes back to play Ellie once again.
There are seven episodes in Season 2, and if April 13 is indeed the release date, and if there is one new episode per week, the season would wrap up on May 25. The Last of Us is expected to stretch to as many as five seasons.
Showrunner Craig Mazin has said he expects Season 2 to elicit “furor” from fans of the game, due in part to how the second season will depart from the story of the game. Mazin said, “We don’t operate to either make people happy on social media or avoid making them upset. We just do what we think is right.”
As for the game series, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered hits PC on April 3, and it requires a PSN account. The Last of Us 3 is also likely in development at Naughty Dog alongside its new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
