PowerWash Simulator is Ending VR Support

Summary

  • Support for PowerWash Simulator VR ends due to lack of profitability.
  • Non-VR versions will continue to receive updates and DLC content for the foreseeable future.

FuturLab confirms that support for the VR version of PowerWash Simulator will end, effective immediately. PowerWash Simulator has been a hit with the fans since it first landed on consoles and PC in 2022. The VR version of the game followed in November 2023 and is currently available for the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3.

Content updates for PowerWash Simulator have remained steady for PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox versions of the game, with VR updates regularly taking longer to develop. Most recently, a free PowerWash Simulator add-on celebrating the holiday period was released at the end of 2024 for all platforms but was again absent for VR. Now, FuturLabs has clarified its position with PowerWash Simulator VR.

PowerWash Simulator: Where to find All Four Buckets at the Ancient Statue (Bucket List)

In PowerWash Simulator’s long list of achievements, there is a weird one called Bucket List that requires players to find four buckets.

A statement from Kirsty Rigden, FuturLab’s CEO, has been posted across the PowerWash Simulator social accounts confirming that the VR version will no longer receive updates. The base game and all the current DLC for PowerWash Simulator will remain on the Meta Quest Store for the foreseeable future, and no other platforms will be affected by this decision. Rigden explains that the difficult decision was made as the VR platform was not profitable, and the company ran the risk of having to cut staff. The team that worked on PowerWash Simulator VR has been redeployed to fill other job vacancies.

Support for PowerWash Simulator VR Ends

Fans will likely be disappointed with this decision as FuturLabs’ hit game continues to be popular throughout the community. In recent years, non-VR players have seen numerous crossovers, including the recently released Shrek DLC added to PowerWash Simulator, which saw gamers clean their way through iconic settings from the 2001 film.

Despite the disparity of content available with the VR version of the game, there are still numerous DLC packs in PowerWash Simulator for VR players to enjoy. Previous releases have centered around Alice in Wonderland, Back to the Future, and Spongebob Squarepants, all of which will remain available on the Meta Quest store.

Discontinuing the VR version of PowerWash Simulator is a tough decision, and it remains to be seen what projects FuturLab has in the pipeline. While there is no confirmation of what the team is currently working on, the developers recently surprised fans with the announcement that PowerWash Simulator will receive Wallace and Gromit DLC in an upcoming update. For now, it seems the team at FuturLab will be adding more to the console versions of the game before moving on to their next challenge.
