With it being nearly 12 years since Black Flag first released, it’s safe to say that many would jump at the chance to play a new version of the game that takes advantage of modern hardware.

Rumors of an Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake have been swirling for quite some time, with previous reports suggesting that the game was going to release at some point this year, only to be pushed back in the wake of Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ delay. Assassin’s Creed’s Rumored Black Flag Remake Should Only Be the Beginning

While remaking a successful entry isn’t the most original idea, Ubisoft has the opportunity to go big with this trend.

A report by MP1st has provided fresh information on the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake. Citing a developer’s site, the report says that the Black Flag remake will be built using the Anvil Engine and will feature new combat and “ecosystems around wildlife.” Further details are unavailable, but the takeaway is that the Black Flag remake will be a bit more ambitious than some may have believed.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Could Be Getting a Remake

This isn’t the only major leak that MP1st found from the unnamed developer’s website. The same outlet also provided fresh details on the rumored Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake, claiming that the new game will have enhanced combat with a blocking system inspired by Soulslike games and various improvements to stamina, stealth, archery, and more. There was some hope that the Oblivion remake would be announced at the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23, though those hopes have since been dashed.

It’s unclear when the Oblivion remake will be announced, and it’s also unclear when the Black Flag remake will be announced either. Right now, Ubisoft is focused on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which recently got delayed yet again, this time pushing it from February 2025 to March 2025. There are some post-launch expansions planned for Assassin’s Creed Shadows as well, but once that’s done with, one has to imagine that Ubisoft will start promoting the Black Flag remake for a probable launch in 2026. However, this is all just speculation based on leaks and rumors, and so fans should take any claims about a potential Black Flag remake with a grain of salt until Ubisoft itself makes the announcement.
