Marvel Rivals launched with an incredibly stacked roster last month, already boasting 33 characters from day one. Now that Season 1 has kicked off, two more heroes have been added, making Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman available to play. The Thing and Human Touch will be added in a few weeks, giving us four new characters in one season.
Understandably, the rate at which new characters are added will slow down after this – but not by much. In an interview with Metro, Marvel Rivals director Guangyun Chen reveals that there will be two new characters per season, with a gap of about a month and a half between each new addition.

We could get eight new characters a year
In the interview, Chen is asked if the team are considering adding a few characters each year. In response, we’re told that we’re getting much more than that.
“Every season we’ll be rolling out fresh seasonal stories, new maps, and new heroes,” he explains “We’ll actually be breaking down each season into two halves. The length of one season is three months. And for each half of the season, we will introduce a new hero.
“We just eventually want to continue to enhance the experience, and, you know, keep everyone excited in our community.”
Well, giving us eight new characters a year (plus another two in 2025 since Season 1 has double the new roster additions as usual) is certainly one way to keep players engaged. Overwatch 2 has come under fire the the long wait between meaningful updates, especially after its big PvE story mode was cancelled.
Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how long this can be maintained. Some new additions to the roster are already rumoured, with dataminers recently claiming to find evidence that Professor X, Colossus, Jia Jing, Paste Pot Pete, and Locus are coming to the game.
Right now, Marvel Rivals shows no sign of slowing down, as it beat its concurrent player record on Steam over the weekend.
