How MultiVersus Can Make the Most of the DCCU Reboot

MultiVersus has brought a large roster of some of the best Warner Bros. characters into a brawler setting, making for some entertaining matches. From the Powerpuff Girls to Samurai Jack, MultiVersus covers a lot of classic franchises, but one of the most notable brands represented is DC Comics. Since its launch, MultiVersus has brought an eclectic variety of heroes and villains to the game, and with DC’s film series amid a major reboot, it could soon be the perfect time to celebrate with a special in-game event.

James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film is the first movie to be released under his management of the franchise, bringing another full-blown reboot of the DC cinematic universe to life. MultiVersus may already feature its own version of Superman, but the arrival of a brand-new adaptation of one of the world’s most iconic superheroes could set the stage for some fresh variants for the game’s DC characters and even some newcomers.

While MultiVersus has certainly kept its hands full with character additions, its surprising that one leaked character wasn’t given an earlier entry

MultiVersus Could Benefit From the New DC Cinematic Universe

  • Superman
  • Batman
  • Wonder Woman
  • Raven
  • Nubia
  • The Joker
  • Harley Quinn
  • Black Adam

It’s mostly unclear where James Gunn’s leadership will take this new version of DC, but once his Superman film launches this summer, MultiVersus‘ Superman could benefit from including variants inspired by versions of the Kryptonian that have made waves in the 21st century. Whether it be newcomer David Corenswet, Henry Cavill, or even Brandon Routh, MultiVersus has several unique takes on the hero to use for variants.

In honor of this fresh version of the DC cinematic universe, MultiVersus could bring both the old and new versions of superheroes to the game through alternate cosmetics. While they have yet to show up in James Gunn’s DC world, Wonder Woman has had her own spin-off starring Gal Gadot, while there have been three versions of Batman this century with Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, and most recently, Robert Pattinson.

James Gunn’s Superman is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

With such a large roster of adaptations to draw from, MultiVersus has a treasure trove of variant possibilities to consider. When it comes to villains, The Joker and Harley Quinn, there is just as much variety on that front, as well. A Joker variant could take inspiration from Heath Ledger or Jared Leto’s portrayal, while Harley Quinn could have a Lady Gaga variant, since MultiVersus‘ default version of the character already resembles Margot Robbie’s take on the villain.

Making the Most of a Brand-New Film Universe

While the DC cinematic universe has had more trouble than its competitor, Marvel, when forming a cohesive brand, MultiVersus would be a strong way to celebrate all of these adaptations. It may not have been a perfect path forward for DC’s film aspirations, but if James Gunn’s direction is able to pull off a successful film universe, then MultiVersus would only benefit from such a crossover event.

Since the game’s launch, MultiVersus‘ character roster has continued to grow steadily, but a large-scale in-game event to celebrate a potential new chapter for Warner Bros. might be a powerful method of drawing in both longtime and new players. While this is just speculation, it would still serve as a powerful marketing tool for Gunn’s first DC film.

MultiVersus could also potentially add characters from Gunn’s film, like Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern and Mister Terrific.

Ever since the first trailer for Superman dropped, theories about what Gunn’s adaptation has in store for viewers have been circulating. As the film’s release draws near, it will be intriguing to see if MultiVersus jumps at the chance to help ring in the arrival of the movie. It remains unclear, but MultiVersus and Warner Bros. could be missing a big opportunity if not.
