Hearthstone has officially revealed concrete details about the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, including a January 21 release date. Featuring 49 new cards split between class cards, multi-class StarCraft faction cards, and a single factionless neutral Legendary, this Mini-Set is the largest in Hearthstone history.
During the Warcraft Direct on November 13, 2024, Hearthstone revealed Heroes of StarCraft. This Mini-Set for The Great Dark Beyond expansion also serves as a crossover between Hearthstone and StarCraft, Blizzard’s popular yet neglected science fiction RTS franchise. Only basic information was available during the initial reveal, with more planned for after the new year.

Blizzard Announces Six New Warcraft Conventions
Blizzard kicks off 2025 with a bang by announcing six conventions to celebrate Warcraft’s 30th anniversary taking place in the first half of the year.
Exactly two months later, Hearthstone has finally pulled back the curtain on this micro expansion. Heroes of StarCraft will contain 49 brand-new cards – 11 more than typical Mini-Sets. Each Hearthstone class gets three cards, while each of the three StarCraft factions is further represented by five cards that can be used by the classes they represent, one of which is a Legendary. Lastly, a single neutral Legendary card, Grunty, finishes up the Mini-Set. Hearthstone has already shown off a handful of these cards, with the rest of the reveals planned over the week leading up to the Mini-Set’s release.
Hearthstone Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set Release Date
The cards revealed for the Zerg – available to Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and Warlock – focus on summoning tons of Zerglings, and then using the Hydralisk to deal damage based on the size of the swarm. The Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue’s Protoss cards are all about temporary and permanent mana cheating before dropping expensive cards like the Carrier. Finally, the Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior classes gain access to the Starship mechanic from Hearthstone’s The Great Dark Beyond set, with new Starship Pieces, ways to make launching multiple Starships easier, and even a special Starship featuring the Mech creature type.
Unfortunately, Heroes of StarCraft’s larger size comes with a bigger price tag. While the cards can be pulled from The Great Dark Beyond packs, players can pick up a playset of every Heroes of StarCraft card for $20 or 2500 gold – $5 and 500 gold more than normal Hearthstone Mini-Sets – or in its all-Golden version for $80 or 12,000 gold, rather than the normal $70 and 10,000 gold price tag. However, fans can buy just the Protoss, Terran, or Zerg cards from the Mini-Set for $10 or 1200 gold.
Hearthstone is also celebrating the Mini-Set with two streamed events: StarCast and HearthCraft. StarCast on January 23 at 10 AM PST will feature iconic StarCraft players TrumpSC and Day9 playing with the new cards, while HearthCraft on January 24 at 9 AM PST has Hearthstone community creators representing each faction facing off in matches and mini-games. Fans can obtain two normal and two The Golden The Great Dark Beyond packs by watching these events on Twitch, so players should be sure not to miss out on the free cards.
