Summary
- Hawkeye’s future remains uncertain, possibly sparking a second season or transitioning into a MCU movie.
- Rumors hint at potential storylines for a second season, likely inspired by The Raid, yet face challenges.
- Disney’s strategy to bring established characters back may lead to a Hawkeye movie for wider appeal.
It has been over three years since Hawkeye was released on Disney Plus, and audiences have been anticipating more stories from this series ever since. Hawkeye saw Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton team up with Kate Bishop, introducing a brand new character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and creating an unlikely alliance between them.
The series featured various other MCU characters, such as Yelena Belova and Kingpin, all of which came together to create an engaging miniseries. However, a second season for the show still remains unconfirmed, and at this stage, it might be more beneficial to simply turn a potential future series into a fully-fledged MCU movie instead.

Hawkeye Deserves a Second Season
Nearly three years since it wrapped its first season, Marvel Studios could be teasing a potential second season of Hawkeye on Disney+.
What Is Rumored For Hawkeye Season Two?
Nothing is confirmed about the second season of Hawkeye at this point, as the project is shrouded in mystery and has not officially been announced. However, it is believed that it will be released between the two upcoming Avengers movies, which are due out in 2026 and 2027. It has also been rumored that the season will be inspired by The Raid and could see Hawkeye confined to just one setting from start to finish.
This is an interesting idea as it would ensure a lot of tension takes place, whether between him and Kate or the relationship with his brother Barney, which is expected to be shown. However, keeping things in one location for an entire television show could prove difficult as people might lose interest. When someone is watching a show, they want a little variety and things to change. That’s less of a problem in a movie because there are no breaks, meaning people could fully immerse themselves and feel trapped in the location with the characters. This is why Marvel should consider making a movie rather than a second season of Hawkeye, as this idea would have more of an impact.
Disney Might Consider Throwing Its Big Hitters Into Movies
Disney has recently been making some interesting casting decisions regarding the MCU, opting to bring back familiar faces or hire established names to front up movies. Having Robert Downey Jr. return for Avengers: Doomsday could be a creative decision, but for a lot of people, it felt like a desperate plot to get the franchise’s excitement levels back to where they were before his departure by simply bringing him back.
Chris Evans is reportedly set to return in Avengers: Doomsday as well, while Marvel also brought in Hugh Jackman to play Wolverine, which is something fans have wanted for years. Marvel might have a couple of huge Avengers movies in the pipeline, but some of the upcoming films could be considered a risk due to the lead actor either being completely new to the franchise or because they’re not as established as characters like Thor or Iron Man.
Captain America: Brave New World is a step in a new direction with Anthony Mackie in the lead role, while Thunderbolts* features a whole host of characters that aren’t fully established. The upcoming debut of the Fantastic Four is exciting but also a step into the unknown. Even a seemingly safe bet in Spider-Man 4 has been dealing with script issues as of late. That’s why Disney might consider pulling out an established character in Hawkeye to try and steady things with a movie guaranteed to attract an audience.
Hawkeye Deserves The Big Screen Treatment
The character of Hawkeye has been involved in the MCU since the original Thor movie in 2011, and he has since been involved in eight different films. This has included most of the biggest Avengers movies, which has ensured that he’s one of the most important characters in the franchise. However, he’s the only original Avenger not to be given his own solo movie, which is a shame as people are invested in the character.
Marvel has done a great job investing a lot of time into Clint Barton’s backstory, whether via his family or the longstanding history with Black Widow. People know a lot about him, and there’s no doubt that the character is interesting enough to warrant his own movie, which is why Marvel gave him his own television series. A Hawkeye movie would likely be very different from most MCU films due to the nature of his powers and the fact he’s more like a spy than a superhero, but MCU films that are completely different from the norm tend to perform very well.
Whether it’s taking on the idea of everything taking place inside one location or if it spans over different places across a longer period of time, this could be a very interesting movie. It would help to grow Kate Bishop’s character while giving Hawkeye the big-screen adventure that the character deserves in the MCU after so many years. Whether this is used to wrap up his time in the franchise or simply to continue the story, a Hawkeye movie seems like a wiser choice than a second season of the Disney Plus series after such a lengthy wait.
