Summary
- Larian shouted out the infamous Withers Big Naturals mod in a celebratory post.
- MaybeAdam is a visionary.
- Hire MaybeAdam.
Larian Studios has announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 mods have been downloaded over 100 million times. The specific mod the studio has chosen to highlight isn’t the game’s most popular, but it could be the game’s most infamous.
The post’s caption reads “you are modding naturals,” accompanied by an image of Withers with two zeroes on his chest. This is obviously a reference to MaybeAdam’s “Withers Big Naturals” mod, which adds a sizeable bust to everyone’s favourite ex-god of death. It’s not the most downloaded mod in the world, but over 4,000 people saw enough value in this content to add it to their game.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s Greatest Mod
Perhaps this is Larian’s way of saying: Yes, not many people have downloaded Withers Big Naturals. However, the people who have experienced this piece of content have had their lives dramatically changed for the better. When people say “Hire Fans,” they’re usually spouting “anti-woke” nonsense, but in this case, perhaps Larian should hire MaybeAdam. Their contribution to Baldur’s Gate 3 is immense, and that should be recognised. With one final patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 set to arrive next year, don’t be surprised if we see Withers’ natural enhancements becoming canon.
Although quality isn’t measured in popularity, if anyone is curious about which Baldur’s Gate 3 mods are the most downloaded, the top 5 are: ImprovedUI (3 million), Adjustable Party Limit (2 million), HairUnlocked (2 million), UnlockLevelCurve (2 million) and Faerun Colours (2 million). These are fairly self-explanatory, mods that change some of the game’s constraints (party limits, level caps) or add cosmetics (hair and dye colours).
As the modding scene continues to develop, we’ll likely see more ambitious projects beginning to bear fruit. There are constant calls for modders to recreate the original two games in Baldur’s Gate 3’s engine, and a team has already re-created Waukeen’s Promenade from Baldur’s Gate 2. It could be years before we see these projects released, but the possibilities are exciting.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.
