Summary

  • Boti: Byteland Overclocked is a new PS5 3D platformer, offering co-op play and a robotic theme.
  • The game has “Mostly Positive” reviews and is only $19.99.
  • While not as ambitious as Astro Bot, Boti provides a solid platforming experience for co-op gamers.

The newly-released PlayStation 5 3D platformer Boti: Byteland Overclocked is something that fans of Astro Bot should definitely check out if they’re wanting a similar experience. Astro Bot was the highest-rated new video game release of 2024 and even managed to take home the coveted Game of the Year prize at The Game Awards. Considering this, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if PlayStation 5 gamers were looking for a similar experience.

Luckily, there are all kinds of 3D platformers available on the PS5, mainly through the classic games available as part of the PS Plus Premium library. While many of the titles are also available as a standalone purchase, a PS Plus Premium subscription gets PS5 fans access to classic 3D platformers from the PlayStation 2 era, including the Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper trilogies.

Astro Bot Reaches Unbelievable Milestone

Not long after its Game of the Tear 2024 win, Astro Bot makes history in the platformer genre with yet another incredible achievement.

3D platformer fans looking for a newer experience on PS5 should give Boti: Byteland Overclocked a look. Boti: Byteland Overclocked has a technological theme and features robotic playable characters, so it has similar vibes to the beloved Astro Bot. Gameplay-wise, it’s not nearly at the same level as Team Asobi’s masterpiece, but it’s still a great platformer that’s plenty of fun. It’s even more entertaining when tackling its stages with a friend, however.

Boti: Byteland Overclocked is a 3D Platformer With Co-Op

Boti: Byteland Overclocked features split-screen co-op, allowing two players to play through the entire game together. The local co-op support definitely elevates Boti and makes it much easier to recommend, but it doesn’t hurt that the game is only $19.99 ($15.99 for those with a PS Plus subscription). It may not have quite the same level of polish or fun factor as Astro Bot or some of the classic 3D platformers playable on PS5, but it’s still a solid choice, especially for anyone looking for a co-op game to play.

Boti: Byteland Overclocked doesn’t have many professional reviews, but it does have “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam.

Boti: Byteland Overclocked is just the latest local co-op platformer to grace the PS5. Another recent one is The Smurfs: Dreams, a surprisingly fun 3D platformer that’s inspired by Super Mario 3D World. There’s also Nikoderiko: The Magical World, which plays like a combination of Donkey Kong Country and Crash Bandicoot.

Of course, some Astro Bot fans may not be interested in trying these other 3D platformers and may be more concerned with more content for that game. Team Asobi has supported Astro Bot post-launch with updates that have added speedrun challenges and even a brand-new Christmas-themed stage, but it’s unclear if anything else is on the way. There’s always hope, though some fans may prefer Team Asobi to move on to its next project, whatever that may be.
