Having a Bard in the party who knows ‘Song of Rest’ is a good help towards this, but the Long Rest is really the best way for everyone to get back into tip-top condition and take on the baddies of Faerûn with everything intact.

Keep On Top Of Supplies

With rest being the best way to ensure a team is fighting fit, the party has to have a fitful night’s sleep, and the way to do this is with camp supplies like food, drink, or supply sacks.

The game scatters consumables across the world in chests, barrels, and even on foes. So, a player should make sure to check every nook and cranny for even the smallest morsel, as well as traders, to see if they have anything for sale. Every little helps. Having a Long Rest takes 80 supplies, not the usual 40, so stock up.

While it is a risky technique to try and implement, if a player is careful and able to pull it off, the chance of avoiding a disastrous encounter could be the difference between success and failure for the playthrough. For example, at the Goblin Camp, quietly removing one group at a time is a good way to avoid being swarmed.

Pick Your Battles

Know When To Run

A player choosing to fight their way through every battle in Honour Mode would be nearly impossible. Many players have team wipeouts in normal game modes, let alone one that throws curveballs into the mix. A good thing to remember is that a party does not have to struggle through battles to advance in the game, especially ones that could crush the party if walked into too early on. A good example is the ‘Find the Shipment’ fight in Act 1 – if stumbled upon too soon, those gnolls could send players back to square one.

The option to flee is something every player should keep in mind when approaching a battle. Fleeing can even be used to their advantage since enemies cannot respawn once dead.

Running in and out of a fight may feel tedious; however, it can be a saving grace for a party that has taken a beating and needs a small reprieve. Don’t be afraid to run and hide should the going get tough. Rest up and return. Ready to take on those final few foes and progress ahead.

Know Your Foe

Be Aware Of Legendary Actions

A new feature to be aware of in Honour Mode is Legendary Actions. These are new actions and reactions given to bosses to further increase the game’s difficulty, potentially changing a player’s approach to a fight.

Some of these new actions are worth keeping on top of as, like with the Owlbear encounter, it can double the number of foes a player has to battle. Making the encounter twice as hard to survive. Also, unlike other foes, the character of Orin gets two Legendary actions for the different forms she can take. Learning what to expect with these new actions will be the key to success.

Make Friends

Recruit Everyone You Can

If a player is able to make it to the final boss battle in Honour Mode, then that is an achievement in itself. This is a punishing game mode–even reaching the end can be extremely difficult. However, should a party make it to this final fight, they will need all the help they can get, which will be in the form of all those they have been able to recruit throughout the game.

This should be something on a player’s mind as soon as they step from the Nautaloid into the brutal world of Baldur’s Gate 3, and making sure to finish each Act with allies is imperative to the party’s success. Or their failure.
