- Many players reported receiving 10-year bans after participating in the Wuthering Waves Co-op Event.
- The bans seem to be linked to either purchased accounts or being matched with hackers.
- The investigation is underway for cause of the issue by the developers.
New events are meant to be a fun experience for players in any game, but what if they end up being buggy or, even worse, get you banned? Well, something like that happened with the Wuthering Waves Co-op Event, adding to the confusion as reports of bans started surfacing. But is this the full story, or is there more to it? Let me unpack the details for you.
Wuthering Waves Co-op Event bans seem to be linked to either purchased accounts or matched with hackers
On January 12, 2025, there were a lot of posts flooding social media regarding their accounts being banned for 10 years, which seemed to have been triggered after the latest co-op event. One such post on Reddit had a lengthy discussion surrounding it.
While the original post itself was removed eventually by moderators, you can still read the comments which discuss various theories about the cause. Some suggest the bans target accounts purchased from Chinese sellers, particularly those in the SEA region, as many accounts in this were reportedly linked to bots or hacks.
Another theory is that players were unintentionally banned because the person they were matched with in co-op was using hacks. The game might have detected these cheats and imposed a ban on both players, even if one had not used anything illegal. So simply put, if your teammate is a cheat, you are at risk of being banned as well.
After some investigation, a new update emerged suggesting that the bans were potentially caused by the use of unofficial third-party game boosters, which some players claim to have never used. This has led to even more confusion, especially since players who had simply played on mobile or did solo events are also reporting that their accounts were banned.
The current update is that the investigation is underway as confirmed via the Official Discord server. What seemed to be a fun Co-op Event has sadly turned into a bit of a nightmare for some players, as they risk losing their accounts due to no fault of their own, just for teaming up with someone who might be using cheats. My suggestion is to avoid co-op events to prevent potential account bans.
