Marvel Rivals has taken the hero shooter genre by storm, showcasing the talent of NetEase Games and the beauty of Marvel characters when thrown into a PvP setting. Since Marvel Rivals has such an incredible roster of Marvel heroes and villains, each with their own unique abilities, it’s worth looking at some of the heroes that underwhelm with their Ultimates.

Marvel Rivals has launched and already some characters, such as the Punisher and Iron Fist have frustrated members of the community.
Ultimate abilities are ones that should change the tide of warfare, and a good Ultimate is the difference between a team wipe and victory, and a total loss. Yet, these heroes listed below fail to impress among the best Marvel Rivals Ultimates, and there could be a case for a necessary buff.

Scarlet Witch
An Insta-Kill Ultimate, Easily Countered Due to Slow Charge-Up Time
- Ultimate: Reality Erasure – Engage in free-flight while charging energy, then unleash it to deal massive damage.
- Role: Duelist
- Difficulty: 1/5
Scarlet Witch is an incredibly strong Duelist, and very easy to use. While her move set is great for attacking enemies with nothing to counter her brutal auto-aiming attacks, her Ultimate is one of the easiest in the game to counter due to the fact that she has no defense and will simply charge an attack in the open while players can focus fire on her to eliminate her and her Ultimate from charging.
Scarlet Witch’s Ultimate is deadly, and it’s a bomb that will instantly kill anyone caught in the blast. However, the blast itself has a rather lengthy charge time, and Scarlet Witch’s lack of health addition during her Ultimate charge-up will see her focused on and killed far too soon to make an efficient team-wipe.

Venom
Bite Enemies to Provide Underwhelming Damage
- Ultimate: Feast of the Abyss – Burrow underground for free movement. After a duration or by pressing Attack, devour enemies above to deal damage based on the enemy’s current health and generate equivalent Bonus Health.
- Role: Vanguard
- Difficulty: 1/5
Venom’s Ultimate has the potential to be brutal, as it sees the Symbiote emerge underground and bite upwards like a hungry shark. However, Venom’s Ultimate has a pretty lethal nerf to it in which Venom’s damage during this Ultimate is based purely on how much health their enemies have. If they have high health, the ability deals more damage, but with low health, the enemy will take less damage.

They might not be the strongest characters in Marvel Rivals, but their fun factor makes them addicting to play in every match.
This basically means that the Ultimate is great for high-health Vanguards due to a fast deletion, but if enemies are already weak, this isn’t the ability to outright kill them. Venom can put pressure on enemies thanks to this invulnerable underground swim, but once he emerges in the backline, he’s more vulnerable than one would like.

Black Panther
A Viscious Bite from Bast Doesn’t Kill Enemies Due to a Low Damage Output
- Ultimate: Bast’s Descent – Summon Bast, pouncing forward, dealing damage and attaching a Vibranium Mark to hit enemies, while refreshing Spirit Rend.
- Role: Duelist
- Difficulty: 4/5
Summoning a literal god should do a lot more damage than it actually does. Black Panther is already a pretty punishing Duelist, as his movement is purely melee-based, meaning players need to get involved with the action to see rewarding kills. With Bast’s Descent, players can summon the panther god, which will pounce forward and damage all within its vicinity.
However, this damage is only around 150, so it won’t kill most enemies unless they are already weak and on the way out. It’s great for applying pressure to enemies with a fast surge of damage, but it’s easy to get away from and even easier to counter with a quick heal that Black Panther simply cannot out-damage.

Black Widow
Low Damage for a High Charging Blast
- Ultimate: Electro-Plasma Explosion – Switch the Red Room Rifle to Destruction mode and unleash an electro-plasma blast, damaging enemies within range and leaving a plasma on the ground to Slow nearby enemies.
- Role: Duelist
- Difficulty: 4/5
Black Widow is an underwhelming pick, and having her on the team can be met with sighs and fears of defeat. Black Widow’s reliance on her Red Room Rifle to cause high damage with headshots means that players have to be an accurate hawk, too concerned with their own personal sniper nest than the team’s position.
When using her Ultimate, Black Widow is going to enter the first-person mode and charge up a railgun shot that has a blast radius. However, this blast radius doesn’t deal all that much in terms of damage, and players can expect around 120-170 damage to those caught within the plasma, along with a pretty generous 80% slowed movement.
4
Hawkeye
Fire at Static Targets to Damage Moving Opponents
- Ultimate: Hunter’s Sight – Capture Afterimages of enemies in his view. Damage dealt to an Afterimage is transferred to the corresponding enemy.
- Role: Duelist
- Difficulty: 4/5
Hawkeye players need to have a good aim if they want to kill enemies fast thanks to his hard-hitting bow and arrow. However, the Hunter’s Sight Ultimate makes things a little bit easier thanks to the fact that it will allow players to see Afterimages, which are snapshots of enemies that have moved. Players can shoot these instead of live targets to damage specific players.

Damage per second is important for creating a good team in Marvel Rivals, with characters such as Wolverine and The Punisher providing such damage.
However, the Afterimage is only around for 3 seconds in a total of 10 seconds, so players still need to fire quick shots. The Afterimage also doesn’t take more damage than a direct shot to the moving target, so the damage output is pretty low even if it is nice to have more targets to shoot to avoid missing shots.
3
Thor
A Charging Hammer Strike to Damage Those in the Blast Radius
- Ultimate: God of Thunder – Soar upwards and smite the ground after charging for a duration, inflicting damage on enemies within range.
- Role: Vanguard
- Difficulty: 3/5
Upon activating Thor’s God of Thunder ability, players will deal 40 damage to those caught in the initial blast, but then they will have to linger in the air, attacking no one as they charge an attack that is easy to escape from, and even easier to attack Thor who is currently trying to charge this attack.
While the charge-up doesn’t take too long, Thor can only deal around 220 damage to those within the blast radius of his hammer, Mjolnir, crashing down into the floor. It’s a hard and heavy attack that definitely needs to be faster or more striking.
2
Captain America
Boost Movement and Health For Short Durations in a Small Vicinity
- Ultimate: Freedom Charge – Shield held high, carve a path forward, granting both himself and allies along the path continuous Bonus Health and Movement Boosts. Using Living Legend and Leading Dash while this ability is active can Launch Up enemies.
- Role: Vanguard
- Difficulty: 3/5
Captain America’s own Ultimate ability should be used to charge into the enemy lines and to fight them all day long with a boost to movement speed and a surge in bonus health for both Captain America and his team, but only to those within a 4-meter radius. It’s a pretty short range, so players are going to have to hug tightly to Captain America to find use for this one.
The ability itself grants 30% to a movement boost, and over 100 bonus health. It’s decent enough to get an extra surge of energy to stay alive or provide further pressure on the backline, but the short range of the ability and the lack of healing make this Vanguard a wannabee Strategist.
1
Rocket Raccoon
Provide the Team With a 40% Damage Buff in a Small Area
- Ultimate: C.Y.A. – Deploy a Cosmic Yarn Amplifier that grants allies a Damage Boost.
- Role: Strategist
- Difficulty: 1/5
Rocket Raccoon is definitely an underrated Strategist who can provide the team with decent armor and health throughout his playtime. However, Rocket’s worst ability is most definitely his Ultimate, which needs a few buffs to get it in working condition. The idea of C.Y.A. is great, but the damage buff of just 40% isn’t something that most players will notice when it comes to taking over the objective or holding ground.
What really doesn’t help Rocket’s Ultimate is that enemy players can shoot it to destroy it too fast, and its 20-meter radius isn’t that big, meaning players are basically just stuck for 12 seconds in this small area for a measly 40% damage when it could really benefit from regenerating health and more damage to make a contesting rallying point.
