Ubisoft finally adds Steam achievements to Far Cry 4, with more to come

Ubisoft has been making a concerted effort to support its games on Steam recently. Starting with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the developer has promised that all new releases will come to Valve’s platform on day one, instead of being exclusive to its own Ubisoft Connect platform on PC. Many games from older series, like Assassin’s Creed and Ghost Recon, have also been enjoying Steam achievements, years after going without them. The latest game on this list is Far Cry 4, and the single-player open-world game won’t be the last to get them.

If you haven’t played Far Cry 4, or think now’s the time to revisit it, Ubisoft has presented you with the perfect excuse. The developer has finally added Steam achievements to the game, as it goes through its back catalog and retroactively adds 57 virtual trophies that weren’t there before. Characterized by Ubisoft’s established open-world game design, FC4 is one of the studio’s most overlooked gems, with the series-defining Far Cry 3 coming right before it. There’s still a lot to love with the franchise’s fourth entry, though.

Armed to the teeth with revolvers, rocket launchers, flamethrowers, and even bows, you’re thrust into a civil war and must help decide what the fictional nation of Kyrat will look like when you’re done with it. Do you utilize stealth and silenced weapons, or ride atop an elephant and punch through enemy lines? The Far Cry series is about player expression, as you decide how to tackle missions, outposts, and side quests with the tools at your disposal.

If you’ve already played a lot of Far Cry 4 on Ubisoft Connect you don’t need to worry, because Ubisoft makes it clear that any achievements you’ve already completed the requirements for will retroactively be unlocked. As for Far Cry 3, Ubisoft adds that “Steam Achievements are coming” but doesn’t give us a concrete date.

Ubisoft has been on a bit of a tear recently, adding Steam achievements to plenty of its games that haven’t had them for years. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla got surprise achievements on Steam last year, which was quickly followed up by Black Flag and Unity as well. Then it was the turn of multiple Ghost Recon games, with Far Cry 5 and 6 coming right after. What I’m trying to say is that Ubisoft isn’t going to stop adding Steam achievements to its games, and Far Cry 4 is just the latest example.

With Steam achievements now available, you can check out Far Cry 4 on Valve’s platform right here.
