As the Sword & Shield resurgence in the Pokemon TCG continues, the most valuable cards in Chilling Reign have seen dramatic price increases. As some of the most valuable booster boxes from Sword & Shield surge, their corresponding chase cards and full arts have mirrored the hype.

While not every Sword and Shield set is created equal, Chilling Reign is one of the best, featuring some of the most incredible alternate art cards to chase. Whether you prefer powerful starter Pokemon, Galarian regional variants, or legendary Pokemon, there’s something for you in Chilling Reign.

Tornadus V (Alternate Full Art) – $22.13

Prices Are Soaring

Tornadus has struggled to regain the massive rise in value it experienced during the alt art hype of May 2024, but this card is back on the path to glory. Luckily, Tornadus’ subsequent dropoff wasn’t as dramatic as some other beneficiaries of the temporary boom, as it slowly lost value over a few months.

However, on the flip side, Tornadus’ rebound has been equally slow, as it continues to distance itself from the $20 plateau, with its current market price inching slowly toward the mid-20s.

Shadow Rider Calyrex V (Alternate Full Art) – $23.70

A Long Ride To The Top

Shadow Rider Calyrex V is one of the most well-designed Chilling Reign chase cards in the set, featuring a perfect spotlight for Calyrex to shine while still keeping with its shadowy motif. Though there are more scenes of Calyrex to come, this one stands out even though it doesn’t share the same vibrant colors of its peers.

Calyrex also benefitted from the alt-art boom in mid-2024, though it continued to rise and fall in value during the subsequent months. Luckily, this card ended 2024 on a high note and continued its upward momentum into 2025, giving it hope to return to the high-20s.

Blaziken VMAX (Secret Rare) – $32.41

Lost In Living Color

Blaziken’s most valuable cards are impressive, and while this card offers a great base design, the Rainbow Secret Rare recolor makes it hard to appreciate this Fire-type favorite in all its glory.

If you’re not a fan of this style of Blaziken, there’s another fantastic version to come that might strike your fancy.

While cards like Tornadus and Calyrex received solid bumps in value, this card soared to almost unimaginable heights during mid-2024, hitting heights in the $55 range before losing a solid chunk of its value over the following months. The downward trend persists, so it’s difficult to say where its value may solidify.

Galarian Slowking V (Alternate Full Art) – $35.25

An Oft-Forgotten Form Flies High

If you were asked to name a list of every Galarian Pokemon variant, you’d be forgiven for forgetting Galarian Slowking. This Pokemon rarely receives the fanfare that its Kantonian counterparts do, but the art here is one of the most unusual in the set.

The myriad of objects and foliage surrounding Galarian Slowking are so nuanced and detailed, that you’d struggle to count them all. The intricate design is another reason to enjoy this purple-hued Poison Pokemon art.

Galarian Rapidash V (Alternate Full Art) – $44.24

Usurping Ice Rider’s Reign

There’s another elegant four-legged creature in town, and it’s here to challenge Calyrex’s reign over the price charts, as Galarian Rapidash easily outpaces Shadow Rider Calyrex V. Even though it’s just a V, this card’s art is befitting of a VMAX.

The vibrant colors, detailed design, and beautiful backdrop earn Galarian Rapidash V a spot among the most valuable Chilling Reign chase cards. While the focus seems on the flowers in the foreground, Galarian Rapidash still features prominently in the art.

Galarian Zapdos V (Alternate Full Art) – $44.69

A Full Art That Mirrors Its Price Chart

Galarian Zapdos has been preparing for this moment since its release, as the three Galarian birds are beginning to soar in value; however, Galarian Zapdos has ironically seen the shortest run up the charts.

Despite a relatively moderate price, its fellow Galarian birds have the edge in value.

The roadrunner-esque scene is strangely nostalgic and the incredible depth behind Zapdos makes this card instantly recognizable and highlights its featured Pokemon well.

Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX (Alternate Art Secret) – $46.19

A Bright Winter Wonderland

Ice Rider Calyrex has catapulted upward after hovering around the same value for almost a year. While this phenomenon is consistent across many of the best Sword & Shield alt arts, Ice Rider Calyrex is an example of a card that is mostly along for the ride, as its twin has a far higher value.

While this card is still one of the most expensive in Chilling Reign, it is overshadowed by another horse-like creature – the Shadow Rider version. There is stiff competition among the majestic horse-themed arts in Chilling Reign.

Zeraora V (Alternate Full Art) – $47.73

Realizing Potential On The Horizon

This Zeraora V boasts eye-catching artwork that easily outshines most other Zeraroa art in sheer originality. The serene, wintry scene sticks to the majestic theme of this set, with a distinguished, gentle moment of a Zeraora in nature.

So many superlatives can describe this card, and it might have been the top chase card if it were the focus of the set. Even though it’s just a small part of Chilling Reign, Zeraora is worthy of recognition, even if it doesn’t top the price charts.

Galarian Articuno V (Alternate Full Art) – $50.82

A Bubble That Won’t Pop

The Galarian birds are a fantastic re-imagination of the original legendary trio, giving them divergent, yet fitting personalities that pay homage to their Kantonian counterparts. Articuno is a perfect example of the massive success of these designs, evidenced by their stunning card art.

The V and VMAX versions have risen exponentially in value, and some of the most well-designed V cards frequently find themselves among the most valuable cards in Chilling Reign and across other Sword & Shield sets.

Whether you’re a fan of Articuno’s original design or not, this card offers a distinct, yet familiar Pokemon design to appreciate from this superb set.

Snorlax (Secret Rare) – $70.67

A Kantonian Invader Joins The Fray

With so many mentions of Kantonian forms, it was only a matter of time before one actually appeared among the most expensive Chilling Reign cards. Snorlax is an all-time favorite, and while gold cards can be hit or miss in terms of value, this one soars sky-high.

At over $70, this Snorlax Secret Rare features this iconic rotund Pokemon in its signature belly-rubbing pose. While Snorlax isn’t exactly a majestic Pokemon, nor an Ice-type or legendary, it still finds a place to call home among Chilling Reign’s most popular cards.

Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX (Alternate Art Secret) – $77.83

A Dark Horse No Longer

While it may not soar as high as some Sword & Shield alternate arts, like the most valuable cards from Evolving Skies, the Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX cracks the top three most valuable Chilling Reign cards. The Shadow version outshines its Ice Rider counterpart with a beautiful night sky design.

While it’s nowhere near as vibrant, the subtle colors and majestic depiction of Shadow Rider Calyrex give this alt art a clear edge over its frigid twin. While preference plays a role, there’s no denying most people seem to prefer to open their wallet for this version of Calyrex.

Galarian Moltres V (Alternate Full Art) – $152.61

The Ruler Of The Galrian Bird Trio

Galarian Moltres earns the crown of the most valuable Galarian bird in Chilling Reign with its fierce pose and stunning black-and-pink color palette. This card perfectly embodies this Dark-type bird, striking fear into us with its ferocious, threatening wingspan.

While this card’s price isn’t for the faint of heart, you’ll be engrossed by its striking appearance which explains why it’s in such high demand. From Kantonian Moltres’ bright sun-themed design to this darker, moon-loving version, this Galarian bird gets a major glow-up.

Blaziken VMAX (Alternate Art Secret) – $308.25

Kicking Down The Door To The Top

Blaziken VMAX is an example of one of the many baffling price jumps we’ve seen with Sword & Shield cards, but this card’s art depicts an equally stunning and hysterical moment about to unfold. While it may seem slightly terrifying if you’re looking from the Inteleon evolutionary line’s perspective, the giant Blaziken is incredible.

From the rays of sun shining through from behind it, to Blaziken VMAX’s gorgeous color palette, this card features one of the most memorable arts in Sword & Shield. At about double the price of the next closest competitor, the Blaziken VMAX comfortably claims the title of most valuable Chilling Reign chase card.
