There are over 30 Chapters represented in Space Marine 2, allowing players to immerse themselves in Warhammer 40K’s customization options.
With Space Marine 2 becoming many players’ first introduction to the Warhammer 40,000 universe, new fans might want to know more about the different varieties of Space Marine out there. For some, the huge selection of chapters might not offer a color scheme they particularly enjoy or they may want a unique chapter to show off to their friends. These (mostly) loyalist chapters should scratch that itch nicely.

Mantis Warriors
Penitent Guerrilla Fighters
- Helmet: Relic Secundus (Assault only) / Dark Angels Chapter Pack Faceplate Pattern
- Primary armor color: Death Guard Green
- Faceplate and inner shoulders: Yellow
- Backpack: Nuln Oil
The Mantis Warriors are White Scars successors, and just like their progenitors, are experts in hit-and-run Tactics. The Mantis Warriors are a tragic chapter, being decimated by the Carcharadons, one of the strongest chapters in the Imperium, after joining the secessionists during the Badab War. They were stripped of their worlds and sent on a penitent crusade, to war against the enemies of man until redeemed or dead.
To create the Mantis Warriors in Space Marine 2 is simple, but will require either unlocking the relic Secundus helmet for assault or purchasing the Dark Angels Chapter Pack for the faceplate. Their colors are Death Guard green across most of the armor, with yellow inner shoulder pads and faceplates.

Star Phantoms
Space Marine Death Cult
- Armor: White Scar
- Emblems: Abbadon Black
- Aquila: Gold
The Star Phantoms are one of the most mysterious and disturbing chapters in the Imperium. Typically deployed to the borders of mankind’s domain, the chapter specializes in the use of overwhelming firepower in battle, making them a perfect choice for a heavy loadout. The chapter cares little for civilian and allied casualties, only that their enemies are destroyed, and have formed a cult obsessed with death within their own ranks.

Warhammer fans have tons of games to choose from. But what if they need even more? Here are some great options outside the franchise.
Making The Star Phantoms in Space Marine 2 requires an almost entirely white color scheme with Gold Aquila and black details to add further accents to this chapter of Space Marines.

Death Spectres
Battling Eldritch Horrors
- Armor: Nuln Oil
- Helmet and aquila: Wraithbone
- Inner left shoulder: White Scar
Designated guardians against the Lovecraftian horrors of the Ghoul Stars, the Death Spectres are a grim and stoic chapter. Occupying a tomb-covered world far from the light of Terra and being forced to undergo several “resurrections” before joining the chapter, the Death Spectres really live up to their name. Given their status as Raven Guard successors, they’d be great for any Vanguard main.
To make them in Space Marine 2 players will need to color their marine entirely black, with a bone helmet and Aquila, and paint the left inner shoulder white.
7
Red Talons
Cybernetic Slaughterers
- Armor: Khorne Red
- Shoulder rims: Nuln Oil
- Aquila: Silver
Forged from the Iron Hand’s Clan Morragul during the horrific days of the Horus Heresy, the Red Talons had already honed their aggressive and brutal tactics before coalescing with the most brutal of the Iron Hands to form their own chapter in the second founding. They’re often deployed to destroy renegade space marine chapters and augment themselves with cybernetics, much like their parent chapter.
Creating the Red Talons Color Scheme in Space Marine 2 is simple: their armor is colored red save for black shoulder trim and a silver Aquila, although getting a bright enough shade can be hard.
6
Marines Errant
Crusading Conquerors
- Pattern: Halved
- Left side of armor: White Scar
- Right side of armor: Guilliman Blue
- Aquila: Gold
Successors of the Ultramarines, and sons of the Imperial Regent Guilliman, the Marines Errant are a crusading chapter tasked with clearing the way for the Imperium to expand. Strong adherents to the Codex Astartes, the chapter lays waste to xenos and heretics alike with a combined arms doctrine. However, due to their constant warring, they often lose much of their chapter to attrition.
Space Marine 2 offers all the tools to make Marines Errant Astartes, and it’s extremely easy. Using the halved color pattern for the entire armor set, make one side entirely blue and the other white, and that’s it.
5
Flesh Tearers
Vampiric Savages
- Helmet, backpack, shoulders, and aquila: Nuln Oil
- Primary armor color: Khorne Red
Blood Angels’ successors suffer the red thirst and black rage. The former fills them with the desire to drink blood; the latter sees the marine hallucinate and go berserk, doomed to become a frothing monster. This includes the Flesh Tearers. These savage marines often give in to these curses, with the chapter constantly struggling with numbers due to the sheer number of marines needing to be put down. Held together only by the iron will of their chapter master, Gabriel Seth, the Flesh Tearers are perfect for any Space Marine 2 player who enjoys savage close combat.

The Flesh Tearers use a combination of Khorne Red over their torso and legs, with the rest of the armor being black with green for the eye lenses.

Guardians of the covenant
Scripture-Obsessed Warrior Monks
- Armor: Iron Warrior
- Inner shoulder and aquila: Nuln oil
The Guardians Of The Covenant is a chapter that zealously guards and even pens scripture about their Primarch and the Emperor. Successors of the Dark Angels, the Guardians, follow their organization, fielding full companies of Terminators and bike-mounted cavalry. But they do deviate from their sinister and aloof parent chapter, and most other space marine chapters in one way, they tend to care about the civilians under their protection.
The Guardians use Ironbreaker as their primary armor color, with the aquila and inner shoulder pads being black. Unfortunately, there is no way to replicate their traditional red robes.
3
Dark Krakens
Aquatic Hunters
- Armor: Nuln oil
- Lenses: White Scar
- Inner shoulder, and arms: Xereus Purple
The Dark Krakens are one of the few successors of the Salamanders chapter. The Dark Krakens were created during the recent Ultima Founding, so the chapter is very new to the setting by space marine standards. Their home world of Naktis is covered by a vast ocean with colossal sea monsters living in the depths. Much like the human inhabitants of their homeworld, the Dark Krakens are natural-born hunters, preferring to seek out and destroy the biggest enemies and most important targets on the battlefield.

Warhammer 40K isn’t a cheap hobby, but these incredible figures take that to a new, expensive height.
To make the Dark Krakens In Space Marine 2 players will need the Dark Angels Chapter Pack for the right shade of purple. Their color scheme is black with purple arms and shoulders and a silver aquila.
2
Celestial Lions
Persecuted Heroes Of The Imperium
- Primary Armor Color: Gold
- Inner Shoulder and helmet: Guilliman blue
- Aquila: Black
The Celestial Lions are children of Rogal Dorn, Primarch of the Imperial Fists, and follow their doctrine of stoic defense. The chapter is most notable for its sense of honor, one that almost saw it destroyed following an incident where the Inquisition destroyed a rebellious world they had pacified.
Their formal protests against the Inquisition’s actions would land them as the target of a series of assassinations that almost saw the chapter wiped out during the Third War For Armageddon. The colours of the Celestial Lions are gold with black aquila, and blue helmet and shoulder pads.
1
Ashen Claws
No Loyalty But To Their Own
- Primary Armor Color: Nuln Oil
- Backpack, helmet, inner shoulders: Khorne Red.
- Aquila: choose armor that hides it or use Nuln Oil to mask it
For those who don’t want to serve chaos or the Imperium, the Ashen Claws are the perfect choice. Not a chapter, per se, as they never accepted the doctrines of the Codex Astartes. The Ashen Claws have their own miniature empire in the Ghoul Stars and have been known to raid Imperial space and surrounding xenos empires. They’re Space Marines let loose, with no gods or masters. They even occasionally work with chapters willing to overlook their renegade status, such as the Carcharadons, who will sometimes trade with the Ashen Claws.
To get the Ashen Claws color scheme in Space Marine 2 players will need to paint their marine with Nuln Oil over everything but the inner shoulders, head, and backpack, which should be red. To get the correct color scheme for the Ashen Claws, the aquila should be removed. Unfortunately, this is only possible with certain armor sets. Otherwise, it’s best to color it the same as the marine’s breastplate in order to hide it.
