Although Marvel Rivals made attempts to disable mods in Season 1, some users have discovered workarounds against NetEase Games’ wishes. As reported by IGN, an add-on available on Nexus Mods during Marvel Rivals Season 1 circumvents a deterrent that NetEase Games implemented that checks asset hashes to see if a player has modified the game in any way. The mod’s author, a user called Prafit, stated that anyone who downloads the mod assumes all risks associated with their accounts, including a ban, and only recommends their mod to users with high-end PCs. After Prafit’s workaround was released, another mod made the rounds on social media which allowed players to turn Mister Fantastic into Luffy from One Piece, as both of them share similar superpowers. The Luffy mod, made by a user named Ercuallo, was shared in a video by RivalsLeaks on Twitter.
Marvel Rivals Warns Users to Stop Modding or Risk Bans
It is currently unknown if NetEase Games has explicitly banned any Marvel Rivals player who mods the game, but the company cited the game’s terms of service that prohibit any modifications, cheats, or hacks. While some mods have been removed from Nexus Mods, including one that depicted US President-elect Donald Trump, the Marvel Rivals Season 1 workaround add-on by Prafit remained online with over 500 downloads at the time of writing.
While Marvel Rivals has dealt with false player bans since its launch, the risks of breaking the game’s terms of service have been made clear. Only time will tell what NetEase Games will do in response to the situation.
