PowerWash Simulator‘s VR mode will no longer receive regular support, according to a post shared on Twitter. The game, which was originally launched in November 2023, will still be purchasable and playable, along with any released DLC, though future updates, including new content, are not in the books.
Via a statement shared on Twitter by FuturLab CEO Kirsty Rigden, the move comes in response to the VR platform “(costing) us more than it makes.” Instead of forcing support and potentially dealing with layoffs, a decision was made to end things.

Job Security Was Ultimately The Priority
It’s important to note that the end of support doesn’t mean that FuturLab won’t return to the platform in the future. Rather, it’s a decision that needed to be made in order to prevent layoffs.
“We have been faced with a crossroads: we have a truly excellent and kind VR team who were working on a platform which costs us more than it makes, while also having a list of job openings that were looking to be filled on other projects,” Rigden said. “We took the decision to redeploy our VR team into those other projects/roles.”
At the moment, it’s unclear what the other projects and roles are, though the studio did announce a future collaboration with Wallace & Gromit. What is clear is that Rigden put the livelihoods of the team first, and believes that gamers would have done the same.
“I will always choose job security for my team. Every time. While I know that you must be so disappointed, I also know that if you were in my position you would have made the same decision.”
While VR has made some major inroads in recent years, it can still be considered an emerging platform. The game also leaned a bit more expensively ($24.99) before factoring any expansions, which may have played a role in its profitability. Still, while it’s unfortunate to see the support end, no layoffs are the best possible end result.
