We finally made it folks: The Switch 2 reveal is just days away. At least that’s what insiders are now claiming. It’s about time.
Podcaster NateTheHate, who has a long track record of sharing credible industry leaks, said the long-awaited announcement of Nintendo’s successor to the Switch will happen on January 16. “I can share with you right now that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week,” he said on the latest episode of his show. “I have been told the Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16.”
NateTheHate said he’s heard the reveal will focus almost exclusively on the console itself, with no real “focus” on what software will run on the Switch 2. So rather than get a look at the Switch 2 and, say, a new 3D Mario game, Nintendo is planning to only share information about the hardware itself, according to the insider.
January 16 lines up with a previous rumor from someone called Average Lucia Fanatic. They had previously correctly predicted the PS5 Pro and Nintendo Alarmo reveals, and claimed earlier this month that the Switch 2 announcement would happen on January 17. Average Lucia Fanatic went onto claim the full console would be released by March, with Mario Kart 9 and Red Dead Redemption 2 as launch games.
Whether these are rumors based on actual sources or just reasonable guesses, this week certainly feels ripe for a Switch 2 announcement. We’re just coming off a bananas CES 2025 conference swirling with messy rumors and 3D printed mock-ups of the console, with Nintendo’s lawyers even allegedly confronting one Switch 2 accessory manufacturer over its unofficial renders of the upcoming device shared on the showroom floor.
Nintendo has already promised to reveal the console before April. A Switch 2 announcement this week would also give Microsoft an opening to announce ports of its games to the console during its Developer Direct showcase later this month. And if the Switch 2 somehow doesn’t get revealed by the end of the week, I can only imagine how much worse the leaks will get after that.
