Summary
- Almost all Kingdom Hearts fans agree that Atlantica from KH2 is one of the worst worlds in the series.
- A rather impressive mod has replaced that garbage musical with Birth by Sleep’s Mirage Arena.
- The mod is already in a great state, but the creator has a ton of plans for its future.
A talented Kingdom Hearts modder has put together a mod for Kingdom Hearts 2 that replaces everyone’s least-favourite world, Atlantica, with the Mirage Arena from Birth by Sleep.
Ever since Kingdom Hearts first made its debut all the way back in 2001, one of the biggest talking points among fans is which of the series’ many Disney worlds is the best of the bunch. From Deep Jungle in the first game to the Toy Box in Kingdom Hearts 3 everyone’s got a favourite and, no matter which world or game you pick, your opinion is almost always valid.

In Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories, A Mistranslation Changes Everything
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories recently had its 20th anniversary, but a key part of its story is still hidden behind a repeated mistranslation.
There’s one major exception to that friendly rule, though – Kingdom Hearts 2’s Atlantica, which is widely regarded as one of the worst worlds in the whole series. The first iteration of Atlantica was already divisive enough on its own, but the sequel’s musical take on the world of The Little Mermaid is incredibly unpopular even to this day. So how about a mod that replaces it with something better?
Kingdom Hearts 2 Mod Lets You Replace Atlantica With Birth By Sleep’s Mirage Arena
As highlighted by Kingdom Hearts YouTuber TheGamersJoint, that’s exactly what you can do thanks to Nexus Mods creator Kiteki, who has created a mod that bins off Atlantica for a custom world. The world in question is the Mirage Arena from Birth by Sleep, which essentially acted as that game’s version of Olympus Coliseum.
The impressive mod not only replaces Atlantica on the World Map (as well as getting rid of it from Jiminy’s Journal), but also lets you actually compete in battles against Unversed, Dream Eaters, and a new Custom Boss. Combine all of that with the extra effort that’s gone into the design and effects used, and you have a very impressive mod.
Kiteki’s current version of the Mirage Arena mod is just the beginning too, as they’ve also shared some of the future plans they have for it. Those plans include making it its own world on the map instead of replacing Atlantica, adding more Dream Eaters and Unversed to the matches, and even adding a custom currency to the area, presumably for its Moogle Shop.
Kingdom Hearts has had some stand-out mods since the games came to PC, but this Mirage Arena one has to be up there with the best of the best. Getting rid of Atlantica is already a big win, but replacing it with such a well-crafted version of a Birth by Sleep world makes it even greater.
