How To Beat Gilgamesh Trial In Final Fantasy XIV

During the peculiar Hildibrand Quests in Final Fantays 14, players will have the chance to fight one of the series’ most iconic villains: Gilgamesh. The fateful encounter is held at the Battle on the Big Bridge Trial, the very same name as Gilgamesh’s trademark soundtrack. And more impressively, it does happen on a big bridge.

This fight is unique when compared to all the other Trials you’ve faced so far (and many you’ll still face in the future), but there’s nothing to worry about. Greg has it coming, so it’s time to give him exactly what he asked for.

How To Unlock Battle On The Big Bridge

Battle on the Big Bridge is unlocked automatically as soon as you advance through the “The Three Collectors” quest in the Hildibrand Adventures questline. Gilgamesh challenges you directly to a fight, and you have no option but to oblige.

The encounter is a Level 50 Trial that can be entered through Duty Finder, and has a minimum Item Level of 50.

You can use the Unrestricted Party option to start this trial, allowing you to play it unsynced and use a high-level job to finish it quickly.

Battle On The Big Bridge Guide

Fighting Gilgamesh in the Battle on the Big Bridge Trial in Final Fantasy 14.

Gilgamesh and his loyal partner Enkidu have two separate phases with some unique mechanics as he traverses the Big Bridge. He’ll be running through the bridge and summoning creatures to slow down your party, but they’re not stopping you from giving him a good beating.

He uses various attacks at random, so be ready for them. Here are all of his possible moves throughout his first phase:

Attack

Type

Description

Bitter End

Cleaving Tankbuster

Sweeps the area in front of his main target. Must be mitigated. Avoid being in front of him if you’re not a tank.

Toad

Special

Turns one player into a frog to be chased by Enkidu, the green chicken. If you’re toaded, keep running until it fades away.

Pradamante

Circle AoE

Attacks all players around him with his spear. Untelegraphed, but doesn’t deal much damage.

Minimum

Special

Targets a player with Mini and Heavy debuffs, and starts hitting them for a lot of damage. Heal them as needed.

Rocket Punch

Single-target

Hits a random player with a punch, Confusing them. Heal them to full to remove the Confuse debuff.

Grovel

Special

As soon as Gilgamesh hits 50% HP, he grovels, becomes untargetable, and feints his surrender, only to attack you later. He takes less damage from all attacks after this

Bomb

Special

After pushing him down to 40%, Gilgamesh runs away from the battle and drops a bomb at the center of the arena. Ignore the bomb and chase him.

Gilgamesh starts running at 40 percent health, so it’s time to get him. He’ll summon some Crossing Bateleurs and Crossing Hippocerfs to annoy you, so have the tank gather all of them and kill them with AoEs as fast as you can.

Once they’re all down, you can finally face Gilgamesh again. He uses all moves from the first phase, with just a few new tricks. But more importantly, his debuffs can now apply to multiple players at once, so beware!

Attack

Type

Description

Whirlwind

Special

Summons various whirlwinds around the arena that damage and knock up players caught by them. Avoid them as much as you can.

Whirlwind Slash

Circle AoE

Similar to Pradamante (his untelegraphed AoE), but with a cast bar.

Giga Jump

Special

After marking a player, Gilgamesh jumps directly towards them, dealing damage to them and whoever is nearby.

After putting Gilgamesh back in his place, you’re able to continue the Hildibrand questline, which is necessary if you’re going for the Endwalker Relic Weapons. Aside from that, you can get the following items from the Trial:

  • Gilgamesh & Enkidu Card
  • Faded Copy of Battle on the Big Bridge

Both drops are obtained at random, so you might not always get them. They are automatically added to your inventory, so you won’t have to worry about rolling for them.
