Rumor: Wicked Actor May Be Eyed to Play Iconic X-Men Character in the MCU

A Wicked movie cast member is rumored to be on Marvel Studios’ radar for an iconic mutant role in the MCU’s upcoming X-Men franchise.

MyTimeToShineHello claims Gwyneth Paltrow will return in Avengers: Doomsday. The notable scooper suggested Paltrow will return both as Petter Potts and her superhero alter-ego, Rescue, by Quote Tweeting, “She’ll be back in Avengers: Doomsday,” in response to a GIF shared by another Twitter user featuring Paltrow in full Rescue armor from Avengers: Endgame. Fans shouldn’t rush to conclusions, as this rumor remains unconfirmed by official sources.

Paltrow first appeared as Pepper Potts in 2008’s Iron Man, the first MCU movie, and returned for six additional Marvel Studios films. However, it wasn’t until 2019’s Avengers: Endgame that Paltrow’s Potts followed her comic book counterpart by donning her suit of armor as Rescue, joining the battle against Thanos and his army. Unfortunately, that would be the last fans saw of Paltrow’s Rescue, as the actress hasn’t been in any MCU films since then. Paltrow said she’s willing to return to the MCU, but the role would have to be small and only require a day or two of filming.

MyTimeToShineHello didn’t specify whether Paltrow’s role in Avengers: Doomsday would be significant, so it’s possible Marvel Studios met her conditions (assuming they haven’t changed). The Avengers: Doomsday cast is rumored to feature so many characters, including Dafne Keen’s X-23 and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, that it’s reasonable to assume some of these characters may only pop in for a brief appearance. Of course, this is speculation. Avengers: Doomsday is reportedly still being written, so characters and storylines may change.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.
