Throughout the years, the Pokemon TCG has introduced and forgotten about plenty of mechanics that at one time dominated the game. The Lost Origin expansion brings back one of these older mechanics, the Lost Zone. As a more permanent version of the Discard Pile, the Lost Zone does not allow anyone to interact with their cards at all.

However, the Lost Origin expansion brings all new and powerful ways to indirectly interact with the Lost Zone, meaning many of the most expensive cards in the set are going to be those that are concerned with the Lost Zone. As with most Pokemon TCG sets, the extremely rare Alternate Full Art versions top the charts for value, but a few regular versions of cards make it through.
These prices are determined by the average market price from cards listed on TCGplayer, and are subject to fluctuations as time passes and the competitive meta evolves. Prices may not be the same as at the time of writing.
Updated January 11, 2025, by Andrew Scariati: The landscape of Lost Origin chase cards has changed almost as dramatically as some of the best cards from the Sword & Shield era. While the order of the most expensive Lost Origin chase cards has remained steady, there’s plenty of upheaval among some of the best Trainer Gallery cards in Lost Origin.
15
Charizard – Trainer Gallery
$8.09
For months, the best Trainer Gallery cards in Lost Origin hovered around a few dollars in value, but with the rise in prices across the board for the best Sword & Shield era sets, these cards have begun to gain value. Of course, it’s hard to imagine a Charizard card would stay cheap forever, especially paired with a likable trainer, like Leon.
This card quadrupled in 2024, setting the stage for its current market price, and launching up the ranks among the most valuable Lost Origin cards.
14
Nessa – Trainer Gallery
$8.23
Speaking of popular trainers, Nessa’s fantastic Trainer Gallery depiction finally gets the respect it deserves, as this colorful artwork is the perfect complement to the blue streaks in her hair.
Nessa’s trajectory mirrors Leon’s, doubling her value in 2024, especially after the release of Pokemon TCG Pocket. While this card’s shift in value is already impressive, expect it to continue as Lost Origin climbs up the charts.
13
Mew VMAX – Secret Rare
$8.96
From the Trainer Gallery comes this stunning Mew VMAX Secret rare card. Even though much of the card is covered in all black, Mew itself is outlined in shades of pink and yellow, with more black in the negative space to give Mew some shading.

If you’re looking to pick up this incredibly cool card for your collection, you’re in luck. This Trainer Gallery Mew is pretty easy to pick up and would make a great addition to any deck or binder.
12
Gengar – Trainer Gallery
$8.96
For a long time, this Gengar card sat as one of, if not the most visually detailed Trainer Gallery card in Lost Origin, with a price that didn’t seem to acknowledge its appeal. With some of the most valuable Gengar cards indicating that this Pokemon’s popularity is ever-rising, it was only a matter of time before this card caught up in value.
Gengar exceeded Leon’s immensely impressive 2024, jumping to nearly five times its value from the start of that year, erupting thanks to the aforementioned surge in price for Sword and Shield sets.
11
Pikachu – Trainer Gallery
$8.97
Pikachu claims a (likely brief) lead over Gengar’s Trainer Gallery card, as Akari shares a sweet nap with the famous Electric-type mouse.
Several of these Trainer Gallery cards are separated by pennies. Therefore, expect their order and values to shift often as they jockey for position among the best Lost Origin chase cards.
This card’s rise at the end of 2024 mirrors its TG kin, but it also saw a spike to around five dollars before any of the other options. Being a Pikachu card has its benefits, and the constant speculation by investors is one of the catalysts to its rise in value.
10
Pikachu VMAX – (Secret Rare) Trainer Gallery
$9.20
Speaking of Pikachu fever, another Trainer Gallery card features Pikachu VMAX with a design that focuses on negative space. While the artwork itself has been used in other sets, like Vivid Voltage, this design is unique to Lost Origin, and fits the set’s theme nicely.
Interestingly, this Pikachu shares an almost identical price chart to its other Trainer Gallery card, including the spike in mid-2024 ahead of the end-of-year run-up. It might not ever be one of Pikachu’s most valuable cards, but the color palette makes it an unusual gem.
9
Giratina VSTAR 212 – Secret Rare
$10.11
Giratina is dominating many of the highest-cost card lists in Lost Origin, and for good reason. Not only is Giratina VSTAR extremely powerful, but the Gold Secret Rare version looks positively stunning.
Depicting Giratina in all its golden glory, anyone looking to flex their deck will need this card.
Giratina VSTAR has a powerful attack with Lost Impact, dealing 280 damage for three energy. It does have a steep cost to using it though, requiring you to put two of the energies attached to Giratina VSTAR into your Lost Zone, but if you can close a game with an attack or two, it will be well worth it.
8
Aerodactyl VSTAR – Secret Rare
$10.84
It’s no secret that this Aerodactyl VSTAR secret rare is on this list, given the fantastic rainbow artwork and unique abilities that the card has. Aerodactyl VSTAR’s VSTAR Power attack, Ancient Star, gives it an ability when activated. This ability removes all abilities from your opponent’s Pokemon V in play, both their active Pokemon and benched ones.

Since it only costs one colorless energy you can wait a few turns until you build up a few more energies to attack with the Lost Dive attack.

Galarian Perrserker V – Alternate Full Art
$15.67
Just look at how happy this funny little fellow is! The Alternate Full Art Galarian Perrserker V is an absolute treat of a card, and shows off how creative and fun the artists can be.
Galarian Perrserker is no pushover either, with a one-two punch combo that both helps put you ahead on card value and can deal a devastating amount of damage. You’ll be Feelin’ Fine when you knock out an opponent with this adorable Full Art Pokemon.
6
Giratina VSTAR 201 – Secret Rare
$20.00
Giratina VSTAR’s fancier Rainbow Rare version is worth only a little bit more than the plain version, but the design certainly makes the card pop. Giratina’s VSTAR Power can only be activated if you have ten or more cards in your Lost Zone, but in exchange, you can automatically Knock Out your opponent’s Active Pokemon, no matter how much HP it has.
While this Secret Rare has the same stats as the regular version, there’s no denying that the colorful rainbow effect does wonders for upgrading your deck. You’ll rarely find a prettier card to defeat an opponent with than this Giratina’s VSTAR.
5
Pikachu V – Trainer Gallery
$30.67
Featuring the trainer Red from the Pokemon games, the art for Pikachu V is a great homage for fans who have been playing the games for a long time. The two might be a little lost, but they’ve got each other and that’s all that matters.
Pikachu V comes from the Lost Origin: Trainer Gallery and is one of the most expensive cards from the subset.
With two attacks, Pikachu V sets up for a 1-2 punch, searching up to two Lightning Energies and attaching them to Pikachu V, and then using all that energy to unleash a powerful Thunderbolt, dealing 200 damage to your opponent’s active Pokemon.
4
Rotom V – Alternate Full Art
$33.39
The artwork on the Alternate Full Art version of Rotom V is an absolute pleasure to behold, with a bunch of fun little easter eggs for fans to find. Scattered about the messy room are appliances that the little Ghost-type Plasma Pokemon can possess to help Rotom take on different forms.
There’s a lawnmower for Mow Rotom, a microwave oven for Heat Rotom, a washing machine for Wash Rotom, a refrigerator for Fridge Rotom, and finally, an electric fan for Fan Rotom. Staying in theme, Rotom can also fill up your Lost Zone with its Scrap Short attack, removing Pokemon Tools from your discard pile and dealing extra damage.
3
Pikachu VMAX – Trainer Gallery
$44.50
The Gigantamax version of Pikachu V is an impressive upgrade on just about every account. At an impressive 310 HP, Pikachu VMAX has some of the highest hit points in the set. For just three Electric Energy, you can use its G-Max Volt Tackle attack, dealing a respectable 120 damage, or an electrifying 270 damage if you discard all Energy from it.
Stats aside, the art for Pikachu VMAX is extremely cool and nostalgic, featuring the trainer, Red, standing before the Gigantamaxed Pikachu. Electricity and smoke swirl around the pair on this incredible card.
2
Aerodactyl V – Alternate Full Art
$105.11
This Alternate Full Art version of Aerodactyl V takes you back to the prehistoric days of the world of Pokemon. Joining Aerodactyl in its pre-Pokemon Trainer days are a flock of Archeops, some Bastiodon and Shieldon enjoying a day at the beach, and many more.
Rarely does The Pokemon Company give us a look into the distant past like this, so it is a treat to get such a colorful and fun card.
You can use Areodactyl V as a good control piece, keeping your opponent’s active Pokemon in check by discarding the energies from them. Or you can discard around $100 to own this beautiful alt art.
1
Giratina V – Alternate Full Art
$531.46
Not only does Lost Origin give you a glimpse into the past, but with the Alternate Full Art version of Giratina V, we get a look at nightmares. The terrifying Renegade Pokemon is shown in the Distortion World, an alternate dimension that Giratina calls home.
In its stronger Origin Forme, Giratina drifts through a seemingly unending world of terror and despair. This Giratina V will set you back over $500, but owning a piece of Shinji Kando’s look into the abyss will be worth it.
