Some Minecraft players are calling on developer Mojang to reverse recent bug fixes to movement, after they had unintended effects on the speedrunning community. The recent Minecraft changes have made it much harder to move quickly in the game, and it’s somewhat surprising to see Mojang fix this after so long.
Over the years, there have been tons of different Minecraft glitches found by the game’s community, and Mojang have generally sought to patch them out as soon as possible. Some bugs are pretty harmless, so they aren’t as big a priority as something game-breaking. For example, not too long ago, an unlucky Minecraft bug prevented one player from completing the game. Something like this, it’s understandable how it might be a priority to fix. However, movement bugs allowing players to gain momentum quicker have been in the game for a very long time, which is why speedrunners are confused by the recent change.

Minecraft Player Spends Over a Year Building a Simple Starter House
A Minecraft player spends a year and a half working on a simple starter house, but this build has one major element that sets it apart from the crowd.
A petition on the Minecraft site has called on Mojang to revert movement changes MC-271065 and MC-241951, which were implemented in the recent Minecraft 25w02a snapshot. Essentially, these changes remove a 40% speed increase when moving diagonally and take away the individual axis cancellation of movement at slow speeds, which, according to the petition, “are actually considered features to many high-level parkour players and speed-bridgers, and should be classified as such.”
Minecraft Players Want Movement Bugs Returned to the Game
The petition notes that this will particularly affect parkour and speedbridging by nerfing the speed at which players can gather in a short period of time. It cites games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Quake, where movement tech is implemented purposefully to raise the skill ceiling of the game. These changes won’t just affect Minecraft parkour players. The petition also points out that “building in survival will be much more tedious, since placing blocks will be considerably slower on roofs, for example.” At the time of writing, the petition has 1,461 votes, but it remains to be seen if Mojang will change it back at this point.
Hopefully, 2025 will be a big year for Minecraft. Mojang recently changed the way it delivers content to players, focusing on more frequent, smaller updates that help keep the game feeling fresh for gamers who play constantly. There’s also the small matter of the Minecraft movie, which is currently penciled in for an April 2025 release. Whether Mojang reverses its decision on the movement bug or not, it’s still set to be an exciting period for the game.
