A Marvel Rivals player has drawn up some pretty convincing-looking concept art for Sandman, a founding member of Spider-Man’s Rogue’s gallery, the Sinister Six. Marvel Rivals has been digging much deeper into its source material’s pool of heroes as opposed to villains, but this artist’s design looks like it could fit right in with the rest of the roster.
The free-to-play superhero-based hero shooter from NetEase Games has been a massive hit since its launch just a little over a month ago, on December 6, 2024. With the launch of its Season 1 content on January 10, Marvel Rivals is hitting massive player milestones, exceeding a concurrent player count in excess of 560,000 players for the kick-off of its seasonal content.

Rumor: Marvel Rivals Leak Teases Five New Heroes
Another Marvel Rivals leak is shared, and it teases the arrival of five new heroes, including two names well known to comic book fans.
While the new season brings the Fantastic Four to Marvel Rivals, with Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman already on the roster and the Thing and the Human Torch coming in about six weeks, one fan has ideas for a new character on the other side of the law. Drawing up character concept art for human mutate Flint Marko, better known as Sandman. With sand-based powers that give him control over his size and density, Sandman’s design by Reddit user coryharris0715 depicts him in a similar light as many of his previous appearances, clad in his striped green t-shirt and brown trousers, but also featuring a slightly bulkier build than some other iterations of the character, fitting his nature as a Vanguard character.

While the artist has no real control over what goes into NetEase’s game, they are hoping to see a future season add the Sinister Six or at least four of the six members. That seems unlikely, as NetEase has already confirmed that future seasons of Marvel Rivals will be half the size of Season 1, meaning there will likely only be two new characters included in upcoming seasons. Still, the six individual villains could each still appear on the roster in the future, and some players responding to the image said they would prefer NetEase to add in more villains to balance out the hero-heavy roster.
While this artist’s work extends far outside the realm of video games, they have also shared fan art of characters from Supergiant Games’ Hades, and they had a friend animate some of their original artwork in the style of a Grand Theft Auto 5 loading screen based on the similarities between the art styles. They’re also clearly a Spider-Man fan, as their catalog on Reddit includes a hand-drawn recreation of their favorite moment in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
