There’s no doubt that Iron Man is one of the most annoying heroes to play against, especially in lower ranks, where players are too engrossed in fights while the flying menace stacks up kills in peace. If you’re looking for a hard counter, this following guide will ensure the next Iron Man you face is forced to change their hero.
How To Counter Iron Man
Iron Man’s biggest strength is his ability to fly where melee heroes can’t touch him. Additionally, he can shoot missiles that deal AoE damage and can hit multiple targets at once. His ultimate is also very powerful where he releases a blast that can wipe out multiple heroes in one hit.
However, if you’re playing a ranged hero who can deal sustained damage, Iron Man will stop being a problem. Once you pick a character who can deal damage from range (Punisher or Hawkeye for instance), you can pretty much track his movements no matter how much he flies and take him down within seconds.
Additionally, some heroes have the ability to stun or knock down flying characters, and they work pretty well against Iron Man. This is because he will get knocked down from the sky and once he’s at ground level, Iron Man’s threat is reduced significantly. It all comes down to picking the right counter and that is enough to take him down.
How To Counter Iron Man As Strategist
Countering Iron Man as a Strategist is quite easy as there are heroes who can shut him down very quickly. The two heroes that are highly recommended against Iron Man are Luna Snow and Cloak & Dagger.
Luna can freeze Iron Man, which brings him down to the ground level, thereby making him an easy target. Cloak & Dagger can switch to Cloak form and leech out Iron Man’s HP, which will either kill him or force him to fly away. Additionally, you can also blind Iron Man with Cloak and Dagger’s Terror Cap ability, which also makes him an easy target.
Finally, Rocket Raccoon, with his Bombard Mode ability, can shoot down Iron Man from the sky, which is also an effective way to deal with him.
Mantis is also a decent counter to Iron Man as she can put him to sleep, though it might be a bit hard while he is flying. Additionally, her basic attacks also hit pretty hard and you can kill him if you can land your shots.
How To Counter Iron Man As A Vanguard
When it comes to Vanguards, you have a couple of options for dealing with Iron Man. The first option to go with is Hulk who can knock down Iron Man from the sky with his Incredible Leap ability. Additionally, Hulk can stun Iron Man with his Gamma Burst ability, which further creates openings for your team to take the latter down pretty easily.
Peni Parker with her Cyber-Web Cluster ability can shoot down Iron Man while also using Cyber-Web Snare ability to stun him. If you use the Cyber-Web Snare on Iron Man, he will be dropped from the sky, thereby making him an easy target to deal with.
It’s also important to remember that Peni Parker has infinite ammo where you don’t need to reload, making it even easier to shut down Iron Man.
Magneto is a decent counter to Iron Man as his Iron Bulwark and Metal Bulwark abilities can absorb damage, which prevents Iron Man from playing effectively.
How To Counter Iron Man As A Duelist
When it comes to Duelists, there are multiple options that allow you to deal with Iron. Punisher is the best counter to the flying menace as the former can simply spam his basic attacks and shoot down Iron Man. Additionally, Punisher’s ultimate is dangerous, and it can shred through Iron Man within seconds.
Hawkeye is another great Iron Man counter as he can knock the latter down with his Hypersonic Arrow. Hawkeye’s charged attacks are also lethal, as they can one-shot Iron Man in any instant. Finally, Hawkeye’s ultimate can track Iron Man’s afterimages and shut the latter no matter where he tries to fly away.
Hela is also very good against Hawkeye as she can deal sustained damage from range which is one of the best counters to Iron Man.
Spider-Man is also a good counter to Iron Man as the former can stun the latter with his ultimate and Get Over Here abilities. The problem is Spider-Man is hard to play, so only the best players will be able to pilot him properly.
