Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana introduces players’ bosses in a way that they learn how to better use mechanics as they progress. While the game is not particularly as long as other RPG stories, it has its fair share of bosses for players to get through.
While players may need some tips to get the hang of the game at first, Gyalva, Lord of the Blazing Prison, will only be available once they have a firm grasp of combat, abilities, and the game’s other mechanics.

How to Beat Gyalva in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
- Boss Location: Zone of Lava, the Escapeless Abyss
- Boss Health: 1200 (Normal Difficulty)
After the player is done defeating Guilen, The Fire Eater, they will continue to progress through the Zone of Lava to their next challenging story boss, Gyalva. The trick to making this fight easier is to fight from one of the two ends of the bridge.
Unlike previous fights, the player has extremely limited movement options, and the platforms that make up the bridge will constantly be knocked about by this boss. Players will constantly be jumping up to Gyalva and using wind magic to deal as much damage as they can in the shortest amount of time.
The Ys franchise remains one of the best games among Nihon Falcom’s catalog, and overcoming the bosses can give a true sense of satisfaction.
Gyalva’s List of Attacks in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
While Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is a remake of Ys 3 and tells part of the franchise’s long-running story, this is not one of the bosses that appeared in the original. Gyalva has several tricks up its sleeve, and while the process of fighting them is pretty simple, they can rack up plenty of damage against the player in a short amount of time. They will fly around the bridge that the fight takes place on — often tossing parts of the bridge into the air with its flaming attacks.
It is best to do a lot of upgrading to Adol before attempting this fight, or if you find yourself struggling against Gyalva. Upgrade your gear and try to get up to Level 21. This won’t be too much of a grind if you have been defeating every smaller enemy you pass by.
Spinning Attacks
Gyalva has two forms of spinning attacks. The first will have them pass over a section of the bridge, causing the plates it hits to spin into the air. The other option is when they fly over the entire bridge in a straight line. This will cause the plates to also flip around as Gyalva passes over them. Both of these can utterly devastate the player’s health if they are underleveled.
To avoid the first attack, players need to run to either side of the affected area. However, the only safe place for the second option is to be on either ledge at the end of the bridge. Sticking close to one side is a great way to always make it safely to the edge.
Do not stay at the very end of the bridge, as this will box you into a corner. Instead, move around the bridge to strike at Gyalva before retreating to the closer of the two ledges.
Fire Blast
Gyalva will fire a fireball onto the bridge, causing the plates to be thrust up into the air. Being hit by this will cause damage. However, it also provides a window to get several hits in against Gyalva.
Bursting Torches
The torches along the bridge will periodically create bursts of flames while a fireball is tossed from one torch to the other. Being hit by this will cause damage to the player. It is hard to know when these torches will do this, but once one of these bursts is over, it will be safe to move through the area.
