Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana has many different areas that players will discover and explore. One of which will be the Zone of Lava, the Escapeless Abyss. This area will come after the player has defeated Chester, Chester Stoddart, The Black-Hearted White Knight. This area is much harder than the previous areas, and it has a rather challenging boss lurking within it.
Players will run into Guilen, The Fire Eater, shortly after their second encounter with Dularn, The Creeping Shadow. However, players will not need to fight and defeat Dularn a second time before this fight.

How to Beat Guilen, The Fire Eater in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
- Location: Zone of Lava
- Health: 1100 (Normal difficulty)
There are many tips that can help players, but combat experience is what they will need most for the fight ahead. There will be plenty of holes in the ground when the player enters the boss arena. Guilen will rise up from one of these holes and begin flying around the boss arena.
Guilen has a wide range of attacks to be wary of, and players can have their health chiseled away over the course of the fight by not taking steps to protect themselves. At the game’s default difficulty, Guilen, The Fire Eater has 1100 health to get through. It is best if players take some time to upgrade Adol using their acquired resources.
Guilen’s body is composed of numerous segments. Strike through multiple segments to hit him multiple times. As players deal damage to Guilen, his body will get shorter and shorter.

Guilen’s Attacks in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
Guilen has a small pool of attacks, but they all synergize well with how the arena is designed. Being a flying enemy with special movement options makes this a fight that plays differently to what players may be used to dealing with. Here are some of the attacks players should watch out for:
Fire Breath
This boss’s most frequent attack will be when it lets loose a stream of flames that will damage the player. This can be avoided by not being directly in front of Guilen’s head. Players should focus on jumping to strike his lower half as the bulk of their damage output.
Dive
Guilen will dive into one of the nearby holes, causing shockwaves in the process. It is best to never be too close to one of these holes, so that you can always avoid being hit by these shockwaves.
Emerge
After diving into one of these holes, the screen will shake, and one of the holes in the arena will bubble with lava. Get some distance as Guilen will emerge from the lava-filled hole with a large shockwave.
Fire Bomb
Guilen will stop mid-flight and launch a projectile that will explode where it lands. If Guilan ever stops in the air, it is best to get some distance to avoid being hit by this attack.
Once the player has destroyed all of Guilen’s segments, his head will still rocket around the arena. His head will fly directly at players, so always be side-stepping and striking this head from the side. Players will be familiar with needing to quickly reposition from their fight with Ellefale.
