For the time being, very little is known about the playable characters in Borderlands 4. However, the bar for the next generation of Borderlands’ Vault Hunters is admittedly high given how powerful past Vault Hunters from the Borderlands franchise have been. Consequently, an ideal skill tree for characters like the new Siren should arguably learn from its predecessors and build upon the character class’ existing strengths to take this character class to new heights.
The playable Sirens in the Borderlands franchise are typically well-rounded character classes that offer a balance between Elemental weapon expertise, powerful melee abilities, unique action skill effects, and support abilities. Assuming that Borderlands 4’s playable Siren sticks to similar archetypes as past Sirens, there is plenty of room to take these foundations to the next level in a way that distinguishes the Siren playable character from other character classes.

Borderlands 4’s Siren Needs a Proper Melee Build
Regardless of whether melee weapons show up in Borderlands 4, the Siren character class should retain a unique melee-focused skill tree. Throughout the Borderlands franchise, every playable Siren so far has had a variety of skills that buff or augment the player’s basic melee attack. These melee builds for Sirens have gotten stronger with each new playable character, though they still haven’t reached the point where a pure-melee build is viable for endgame content. Consequently, Borderlands 4’s Siren should finally step up to the challenge of making a pure-melee build a possibility.
The Siren’s Support Builds in Borderlands 4 Need to be Worth the Tradeoff
Team-wide and self-healing abilities are commonplace for the Siren character classes, so it’s likely that Borderlands 4’s playable Siren will offer a skill tree with healing abilities, and these builds also have plenty of room to grow. If players are going to sacrifice their damage output to assume the role of a healer, this kind of build needs to finally be worth the tradeoff in Borderlands 4’s endgame content, or else players will naturally want to prioritize self-preservation and damage above team-healing abilities.
Borderlands 4’s Siren’s Elemental Skills Need to Stand Out Among Other Playable Characters
Aside from healing abilities and unique melee buffs, the Siren character class’ primary specialty has been their expertise with the Borderlands franchise’s Elemental damage types. However, nearly every playable Vault Hunter in the Borderlands franchise has skills that improve their performance with Elemental damage types, so it’s time for Borderlands 4’s Siren to distinguish itself from the other playable characters. One way to do this could be to revive Borderlands 2’s controversial Slag Elemental status effect and make it an exclusive buildcrafting tool for the Siren character class so that it doesn’t interfere with other playable characters, builds the way it did in the past.
Borderlands 2’s Slag Elemental status effect makes enemies take up to double or triple incoming damage, depending on the difficulty and the enemy type. This status effect became such a controversy because it was widely considered mandatory to use when playing on higher difficulties, which limited the variety of viable endgame builds.
Overall, Borderlands 4’s playable Siren has a lot of room to build upon some of the best skills from past Sirens in the Borderlands franchise, so an ideal skill tree for the upcoming Siren class would arguably blend unmatched melee buffs, team-healing utility, and Elemental damage type proficiencies. Otherwise, if Borderlands 4’s playable Siren doesn’t take these existing builds to the next level, the overlapping similarities between the Siren character class and other playable Vault Hunters in the Borderlands franchise could reach a new breaking point where the Siren might need to explore an entirely new variety of builds.
