What to Expect From Mass Effect 4 in 2025

What to Expect From Mass Effect 4 in 2025

Fans have been eagerly waiting for more news about Mass Effect 4 since its 2020 announcement, and 2025 may be the year they get an update as BioWare shifts its focus solely to Mass Effect 4. With Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s release in November 2024, BioWare has stated that it has no plans to create DLC and that the Dragon Age team has been moved onto Mass Effect 4. The entire studio is reportedly working on developing Mass Effect 4, which is still in its early stages.

While Mass Effect 4 likely won’t be released in 2025, fans may still get some news about its setting, story, and when to expect it. The best time to expect any news for Mass Effect 4 would be N7 Day on November 7, which has been affectionately named the official Mass Effect Day within the community and is also recognized by BioWare. As this date is towards the end of the year, it’s a great chance for BioWare to provide a meaningful update about when players can expect to play Mass Effect 4.

BioWare Has All Hands On Deck For Mass Effect 4

Keep an Eye Out For N7 Day 2025

While BioWare has two development teams now working on Mass Effect 4, the game is still reportedly early in development. There likely won’t be any significant news about Mass Effect 4 for most of the year because of its early development, and current trends in the industry have kept developers tight-lipped during this phase of production. If players are lucky, N7 Day 2025 may see the release of a teaser trailer much like the one released for Dragon Age Day 2023, which announced Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s Summer Reveal for 2024.

This may mean a 2026 release date for Mass Effect 4, which would be incredibly soon considering the game’s development timeline. Alternatively, N7 Day 2025 may instead see a status update on its development, with a full reveal and possible release in 2026. Either way, with Dragon Age: The Veilguard officially released, Mass Effect fans can expect an update for Mass Effect 4 in 2025.

Mass Effect 4 is Still Early in Production

News is Scarce on the Ground

With Mass Effect 4 still early in production, what information BioWare has released about Mass Effect 4 has been very limited. Most information players have about Mass Effect 4 comes from the original teaser trailer that BioWare released in December 2020. The teaser implied the canonization of the Destruction ending in Mass Effect 3, included dialogue from Mass Effect: Andromeda, showed a destroyed Citadel, Reapers destroyed across the galaxy, and an older Liara retrieving a broken piece of N7 armor– presumably Shepard’s.

A New Trailer Could Give a Wealth of Information

For such a short trailer, the video communicated a massive amount of information for fans to speculate on while also confirming several story points for Mass Effect 4. Another trailer like this in 2025 would build plenty of hype. BioWare could go with something like The Witcher 4‘s recent cinematic trailer which contained a short story unrelated to the game’s plot but that revealed information such as the setting, protagonist, and narrative themes. Such trailers are brilliant for building anticipation and fostering interest in the game during the points in development when there’s little information to share.
