Hardened chests are among the best loot crates in the game. While they do involve the player making it to the end of a difficult POI, the fight is more than worth it, because these containers are filled to the brim with rare items. Not only that, but once it has been unlocked, a hardened chest can be broken down with a wrench for some forged iron.

It’s also possible to trick the game and collect the contents of two hardened chests when completing a trader mission. Instead of activating the mission marker during a clear mission, players can head inside the building, and loot the container’s contents along with all of the other obtainable loot within. Then, simply head outside and activate the mission marker to respawn all the loot.
