Her Story

Her Story is one of the more unique games on this list, as it is an interactive film which was written and directed by Sam Barlow. Your main focus will be on Hannah, who is being interviewed by multiple people in order to attempt to find her husband who is missing.

You will have to sort through several hundred short clips of Hannah’s interrogation in an attempt to find out what has happened to her missing husband. Her Story will require your listening and detective skills in order for you to progress successfully.

Undertale is likely a game you have frequently heard about. It’s been quite popular and captured the fascination and hearts of many, and rightfully so. Everything from the characters and the world to even just the music is fleshed out and quite enjoyable.

SOMA

SOMA, which has the same creator as the Amnesia games, is a survival horror game set in 2104 in a research facility that is deep underwater. You will play Simon, who after sustaining a serious brain injury, wakes up in the research facility nearly a hundred years later.

As you play, you will slowly learn the devastating truth about what has happened to humanity while dealing with android monsters lurking about. The ambiance of the game is unsettling due to the utter isolation of being alone so far underwater while trying to navigate your way through the facility.

Fran Bow

Fran Bow is a psychological horror game set in the 1940s following a young girl named Fran Bow who is attempting to escape an asylum to return to the safety of her aunt. The art style is unique, almost Tim Burton-esque and very detailed.

You will be led through Fran Bow’s mind, getting a glimpse into her reality while flipping from one unfortunate dimension to the other. It is an interesting yet horrifying adventure to embark on with Fran and whilst unsettling sometimes, it is worth it for the experience.

Downwell

Downwell is a vertical slider game about a Welltaro, who one day decides to explore a monster-infested well with the intent of finding the treasure located at the bottom. So, he straps on his gunboots and jumps in, ready to face the monsters head-on.

Downwell has charmingly simple controls and uses a color palette of only four colors. It is a roguelike game, so you will have to explore multiple dungeons. The best part about this game though? It’s procedurally-generated so no two playthroughs will be the same.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is exactly how it sounds. It is a game focused on teamwork requiring at least two players, where one person has been tasked to defuse the bomb, and the other tasked with reading instructions to their teammate on how to defuse the bomb.

There is a bit of a trick to this game, as the person who is defusing the bomb is not allowed to see the instructions and the person with the instructions is not allowed to see the bomb. So, you are really going to have to communicate clearly if you don’t want to explode.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 3

The third game of the famous Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise was released the next year after the first game. This one was a bit different than the first two games, as you only had one true animatronic after you, Springtrap, who is a little different from the others.

The mechanics are relatively the same, watch the cameras, and keep an eye on an animatronic, but now you have to keep an eye on some environmental aspects and deal with phantom animatronics. While dealing with only one animatronic may seem simple, the game can be a handful.
