Is the Sonic movie universe destined to go on forever?

As first spotted by a Sonic fan account, the Film & Television Industry Alliance, a film and television production tracking website, has been given a shoot date of Feb. 28, 2025, with a projected release window of Spring 2027.

It’s likely that the movie won’t actually begin “shooting” on that date. Rather, it’ll enter the pre-production phase, with a script still needing to be finalized, among other elements, such as casting and budget. Still, it represents another major development for what has become a major success in the video game adaptation space.

Sonic Is A Machine

Even before fans had a chance to watch the third movie, Paramount went ahead and confirmed that a fourth movie would be making its way to cinemas. Then, the third movie went ahead and helped the franchise gross over $1 billion at the box office, even managing to hold its own against Disney’s Lion King movie.

While the movie’s post-credit scene does give fans a good idea of what to expect next, it’s unclear if either Keanu Reeves (Shadow) or Jim Carey (Dr. Robotnik) will return. Carey recently said he’d “consider” a return, adding, “I never turn down a role unless I’m not interested. I love this crew, and it’s fun to make a movie with them.” As for Reeves, that is still murky, but given Shadow’s popularity, he’s likely a safe bet.
