A remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion became known to the world in 2023 when confidential Microsoft documents leaked online. These files mentioned many upcoming projects, including this remaster of Oblivion, although it still hasn’t been announced.
There were fears that it had been scrapped, especially since the documents stated that it would launch in 2022. However, there were still rumours, including claims that it is now a full-blown remake. Now, Xbox insider NateTheHate is throwing his hat into the ring, saying that an Oblivion remake will launch in June of this year.
The Oblivion Remake Will Launch In June, Says Insider
Hopefully, that means Bethesda and Xbox will announce it soon
NateTheHate brings this up at around the 23:55 minute mark in the latest episode of his podcast, where he shared his thoughts on Xbox’s plan going into 2025. He says that the next few months should be exciting, especially since they could give us the Oblivion reveal.
The original document that leaked this project was from before 2020 and referred to it as an Oblivion remaster, not a remake. It’s possible that it was delayed to 2025 to make it a full remake instead.
“All Microsoft really needs to communicate at this point is that if you, if you have a Game Pass subscription or you own an Xbox, there’s going to be product for you to enjoy,” NateTheHate says. “Naturally, Doom is a multi-platform game so PlayStation fans are going to be tuning in to find out more information […] and then [Xbox] announce in a couple more months that Oblivion is coming out in June and you just keep the momentum going.”
This isn’t the only evidence we have that the Oblivion remake is happening. Just the other day, it was spotted that a Virtuos employee mentioned working on an “unannounced UE5 PS5/XSX/PC remake” on their LinkedIn profile. This is noteworthy because a previous rumour claimed that Virtuos was working on an Oblivion project, so this might be what the worker was referring to.
If the Oblivion remake really does happen, then we should also expect a remaster or remake of Fallout 3. This was mentioned in the same document that referred to the Oblivion project, although neither has been announced just yet.
Set in Cyrodiil, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is an open-world action RPG that sees you attempt to stop the Mythic Dawn cult from opening a portal to the aforementioned Oblivion. Critically acclaimed, it was expanded upon in Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles.
