Earlier in the week, we reported on how Marvel Rivals is doing an incredibly good job of maintaining its playerbase. On average, it’s managed to cling onto 90 percent of its release window peak, something many live services struggle with.
Now, it’s managed to surpass its launch month success. On Friday, Marvel Rivals smashed its own concurrent player record, with 644,269 users playing at once on Steam alone (according to SteamDB). This is before we even get into Saturday and Sunday, often the busiest days for live services, so Marvel Rivals shows no sign of slowing down.

Of course, this surge in players is almost definitely due to the update that added the new characters: Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic. These two were incredibly well-received additions to the cast – so much so that Sue Storm actually has people wanting to play Strategist, at long last.
This puts Marvel Rivals in a very good place, going into its second season (called Season 1, for some reason) and its second month since release. We know that each season will make new additions to the roster too, so there’s a good chance new and returning players will log in for that as well.
In fact, we might already know who’s joining the roster next. Earlier today, we reported on a group of dataminers, who claim to have found evidence in the game that the following characters are joining the fight: Professor X, Colossus, Jia Jing, Paste Pot Pete, and Locus. Other leaks point to Blade, Ultron, and The Thing being added at later dates too.
