Summary
- 2025 may see even more Xbox first-party games ported to PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
- A reliable insider claims Age of Mythology Retold, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 are launching on PS5 this year.
- Gears of War is regarded as one of Xbox’s biggest franchises, so it coming to PS5 along with Halo could signal the end of permanent console exclusivity from Microsoft.
A credible insider has outlined three more major Xbox games that may show up on PlayStation 5 this year. Xbox is already treating PlayStation users to a couple of day one first-party game releases in 2025, but it seems the company is also digging into its back-catalog with multiplatform intentions.
2024 brought a lot of great games for Xbox users, but it also saw the brand take its first steps towards relinquishing platform exclusivity. In early 2024, Xbox surprisingly ported four of its first-party games to competitors PlayStation and Nintendo, namely Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves, in a move to supposedly secure the long-term health of the Microsoft platform. This was followed up with Doom: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 being confirmed for day one PS5 releases, along with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle heading to PS5 in spring 2025. Beyond these games, many Xbox fans wonder what else is going multiplatform in 2025.

Delisted FPS Games Might be Returning with PS5 and Xbox Series Ports
In an interesting turn of events, certain FPS games delisted in 2024 appear to be gearing up for a return with brand-new PlayStation and Xbox ports.
In a rather shocking turn of events, recent rumors allege that Microsoft Flight Simulator and Halo: The Master Chief Collection might launch on PS5 and Switch 2 this year. The prospect of a premier Xbox franchise like Halo being playable on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles is already hard to believe, but it appears Microsoft is leaning even harder into multiplatform releases. Notable insider Jez Corden claimed in a recent Windows Central report that in addition to Halo and Flight Simulator, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition are slated to launch on PS5 in 2025. Corden is unsure of Switch 2 releases for these Xbox games, but reckons it would “most likely” happen.
Three More Major Xbox Games Rumored to Launch on PS5 in 2025
- Age of Mythology Retold
- Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
- Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 potentially making its way to PS5 isn’t too surprising, given the first game was a timed PS4 exclusive back in 2017. Moreover, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 didn’t quite set the sales charts ablaze, so a PS5 port could be a great way for Microsoft to rake in some à la carte sales for the game. Age of Mythology Retold was released for Xbox Series X/S and PC in September 2024 and received glowing reviews, so it may strike a chord with real-time strategy fans on PS5 as well. The biggest bombshell here is Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, though, as the series is considered by many as one of Xbox’s flagship franchises.
Interestingly, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition‘s purported PlayStation release could also be setting the stage for a PS5 version of the highly-anticipated Gears of War: E-Day. At the time of writing, Gears of War: E-Day is only confirmed to launch on Xbox Series X/S and PC, but a future PS5 port doesn’t seem like an impossibility now. Corden previously stated that Xbox won’t be pursuing permanent console exclusivity going forward, so any of the brand’s future first-party games that are touted as exclusives will most likely end up on PS5, and possibly Switch 2, eventually.
