In FF14, unique hairstyles can be unlocked through gameplay. We look at all the hairstyle options and how to unlock each one for your characters.

His new samurai garb is not just for show, as he has now learned some new tricks in the Kugane Ohashi Trial, and it’s once again the final boss for our favorite investigator’s quests. And it’ll take you some more effort if you’re bringing him down once again.

How To Unlock Kugane Ohashi

Hildibrand in his tattered suit in Final Fantasy 14.

The Stormblood Trial is unlocked automatically during the Hildibrand quests in Stormblood. More specifically, you get it from the quest “The Past Is Never Past” from Nashu at Kugane (X:10.5, Y:8.1). This is the second to last quest in the series, so prepare for some lore bombs on the way. And if you haven’t done any of Hildy’s quest until here, you have a lot to catch up with.

Kugane Ohashi is a Level 70 Trial with a minimum Item Level of 365, featuring another comical (but deadly) confrontation against the man, the myth, the legend: Gilgamesh!

Kugane Ohashi Guide

Yojimbo in the Kugane Ohashi Trial in Final Fantasy 14.

Being a story Trial, this is a simple fight that can derail easily if lots of people die throughout the encounter. Many attacks are similar to ones used in previous Gilgamesh battles, but he also brings some new tricks from different battles, in traditional Gilgamesh fashion.

Here are all the moves he can use during the fight, starting with his disguised form:

Attack

Type

Description

Inoshikacho

Circle AoE

Summons 4 butterflies on four random players. Dodge the AoEs that appear.

Metta-giri

AoE

AoE damage on all players.

Yojimbo transforming into Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy 14.

After using these two once and losing some HP, Yojimbo will finally “transform” into his true form: Gilgamesh.

Attack

Type

Description

Icewind

Special

Gilgamesh creates ice lines on the floor, leaving only small squares as safe spots. He repeats it two times. During the second time, he attacks each player with a circle AoE around them. Find a safe spot with no other players nearby so you don’t clip each other.

Gekko

Special

The AoE dropped by each player becomes a donut AoE that has a safe spot in its middle. You can stay put if it’s safe, but if another donut is clipping it, dodge to the outside.

Tiny Song

Special

Reduces all players’ size with Mini. To avoid it, stack with other players next to the boss once the red arrows appear above your head.

Bitter End

Cleave Tankbuster

Hits the main target for big damage, also hitting anyone in the sword’s range. Don’t stay in his front if you’re not a tank.

Dragon Heads

Special

Summons various dragon heads at one side of the arena. Find the safe spot between them before they reach you. They disappear after reaching the other side.

Dragon Night

AoE

AoE damage on all players.

He repeats these attacks until you lower his health. Once he’s low enough, both tanks are targeted with a Flare attack. They must go away from each other while the party remains in the middle. Gilgamesh will then cast Embodiment, cloning himself with both clones attacking one of the tanks each.

He drops the same donut AoEs from Icewind during this mini-phase. Defeat both clones to proceed.

Gilgamesh copying Susano's attack in Final Fantasy 14.

Once the clones are down, the real Gilgamesh uses Susano’s Ame-no-Murakumo attack, cleaving the middle of the arena. Stay away from the attack, and he’ll finally be back for the final round.

Attack

Type

Description

Giga Jump

Proximity AoE

Drops down on the main tank to return to the fight.

Electrogenetic Force

Orb AoE

Gilgamesh summons multiple orbs either in the arena or above player’s heads. Determine the safe spot immediately, or move away from the party if you’re being targeted.

Enchain

Special

Gilgamesh locks all tanks and healers into chains, forcing the DPS to break them out. Run away from Gilgamesh once he starts casting it, as chains take less damage the closer they are to him. If a player isn’t freed, they’re killed by Hell’s Gate.

Masamune

Line AoE

Targets the north of the arena with a line dash. Run away from it.

Zanma Zanmai

AoE

Hits all players with Zanmato. Drops everyone’s HP to 1, so heal immediately.

Epic Stormsplitter

Line AoE

The same move from Susano once again, but a bit toned down. Dodge away from the middle of the room.

Gilgamesh will simply repeat these moves after Epic Stormsplitter, sometimes using attacks from the previous phase too. It won’t be long until he’s finally put down, finally ending the Trial.

Kugane Ohashi Rewards

Gilgamesh after being defeated in Kugane Ohashi in Final Fantasy 14.

Aside from progressing into Hildibrand’s quests, the main reward for Kugane Ohashi is the Yojimbo Barding. This item is untradeable, so you can only get it from here. Yojimbo also drops the Stormblood Gilgamesh Card for Triple Triad, which also cannot be obtained anywhere else.
