Helldivers 2 Fans Are Hoping For Tenth Anniversary Update

Summary

  • The original Helldivers turns ten this year, and fans have some fun ideas for how Arrowhead could celebrate.
  • Suggestions include adding the original Helldivers soundtrack to Helldivers 2, discounting the first game to repopulate the servers, and adding an entire Warbond.

The first Helldivers was released on March 3, 2015, which means that it’s celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. And with the enormous success of its sequel, fans are wondering how — if at all — Arrowhead will celebrate.

“Do y’all think Arrowhead will do anything for Helldivers 1 on its tenth birthday?” Old_Opposite5125 asked the community. “I hope they will release a small update celebrating its birthday and Helldivers 2 [will] hopefully get armour sets from the first game”.

The top comment from BrodaciousBro hopes for, at the very least, a mention on the official Discord server. But they also say it “would be rad AF if they introduced another piece of gear from that game” and that they “would freak [out] if they make a Warbond full of First Galactic War gear.”

Some commenters, like R4wden, would be happy with a cape that has the original logo. ZombiePotato90 even put forward the name, “Century of Democracy”.

The Warbond is an especially popular idea that many commenters have their own ideas for. ToadCrabber admits it’s a “reach”, but they would love to see a ten-page “Super Warbond” to mark the occasion. Others, like SheevPalpatine32BBY (somehow, he’s returned) are more than happy to pay for such a Warbond, although others are hoping for a free second year release akin to the one from launch.

Some Fans Want The Original Soundtrack To Return

duc200892 suggested that Arrowhead “add the soundtrack of HD1 to HD2” for “a whole new layer” of immersion. Composed by Johan Lindgren, the original score is, as GothmogTheOrc puts it, “a banger”, so it would certainly be a nice surprise.

However, adding an entire soundtrack from a completely different composer would likely feel out of place; reimaginings of a few iconic tracks by Helldivers 2 composer Wilbert Roget II might be a more realistic idea. If not, you can always pop the original score on in the background anyway.

BoletarianBonkmage (taking a break from Demon’s Souls, apparently) put forward the idea of a simple OST toggle.

Most of the other comments are hoping for exactly what you’d expect: armour, guns, and capes. But meat_men is looking back at the original itself, suggesting Arrowhead gives it “a huge discount” to encourage fans to try out the first game, at least “for a weekend”.

Soulsborne fans do this every year (Return to Lordran is happening right now), and it’s great to see the older games repopulated, so this is a neat little idea. Even if Arrowhead doesn’t, it’d be exciting to see the community take it upon themselves.
