Ghost of Tsushima fans recently got an exciting update, as an official anime adaptation was recently revealed. As one of 2020’s most beloved games, fans have been waiting for a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, and while a follow-up has officially been announced, it is far different from what many were expecting.
Ghost of Yotei, the upcoming follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, introduces a brand-new protagonist and jumps over 300 years into the future, promising a very different story. While this sequel looks beautiful and its lead character seems incredibly compelling, it is also bittersweet that Jin won’t have a role in the sequel. However, the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima anime could prove to be the next best thing for fans who wish to see Jin again.

Ghost of Tsushima’s Planned Anime Adaptation Could Give Fans Another Moment With Jin
Of course, it’s unclear if Jin is actually set to make an appearance in this anime series or not. While the anime is set in the Ghost of Tsushima universe, it specifically uses Ghost of Tsushima: Legends as its source material instead of the base game. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends served as the main game’s co-op mode, which leaves the door open for an anime adaptation to have some freedom when crafting protagonists. Since Legends has a four-player max party size, it’s possible that this interpretation could feature four main protagonists who each take on the roles players are able to choose from.
- Samurai
- Hunter
- Ronin
- Assassin
These four classes that players are able to choose from would make a solid base to build a foursome of compelling protagonists on. Since the announcement of the anime series emphasized being focused on Legends, it seems likely that this will be the route taken, but that has yet to be confirmed. However, this doesn’t mean doom for those wishing to see Jin one last time. It still gives the show’s writers plenty of routes to feature Jin in some capacity, even if it’s small. Jin’s story in Ghost of Tsushima was a fascinating dive into a complex character, and his legendary status can still be part of the anime.
Ghost of Tsushima‘s anime project is scheduled for release in 2027.
Ghost of Tsushima’s Anime is Unlikely to Push Jin Aside
Since Jin is the heart of Ghost of Tsushima, it only makes sense for him to show up at some point. Whether it be through mentioning him in dialogue or a full-blown cameo appearance, it would be surprising to leave him out of the anime. A cameo seems highly likely, but only time will tell if this is actually the case. Jin’s reputation has made him a living legend, and a scenario where the anime’s protagonist, or protagonists, cross his path would be a strong nod to the character while not overworking his story.
The Ghost of Tsushima Anime Presents an Opportunity for More New Characters
It’s understandable why so many were shocked, and even saddened, to see that Jin would not be starring in a sequel. He was an interesting character, but Ghost of Tsushima and its story were also satisfying, which leaves it in a strong position. Instead of Sucker Punch running the risk of ruining such a good story, the studio decided to introduce a fresh narrative with Ghost of Yotei. Although risky, it could be the best way forward, allowing the franchise to tell multiple stories without being long-winded.
Ghost of Yotei has yet to reveal a release date, but it’s expected later this year.
The anime is likely on this path, as well. Instead of solely focusing on Jin, it could present the chance to expand Ghost of Tsushima‘s world outside his perspective. It has yet to be revealed how Jin’s story will play into the Legends anime, but it could bring plenty of compelling surprises.
