Recently, Pokemon content creator Light_88_ caught on to an Amazon UK listing for Pokemon Legends: Z-A that momentarily listed the game’s release date as August 15. This was unusual, as an official release date has not been announced, and Amazon typically defaults to a December 31 date for games that haven’t had their official releases announced. Naturally, the Amazon page did revert to the December 31 release shortly after this was caught.
Ultimately, all video game release date leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, and gamers are advised to wait until the publisher gives the official word. After all, there has never been a mainline Pokemon game released in August and, outside of Pokemon Legends: Arceus being released in January, main series Pokemon games have consistently released in November since 2013’s Pokemon X and Y. Thus, this listing could just be brushed off as a mere error, and not a sign of a proper release date.
The Pokemon Trading Card Game May Tie In With Pokemon Legends Z-A
Even so, there’s some credence to the theory that Pokemon Legends: Z-A could skirt series conventions and release this August. One notable place to look is the Pokemon Trading Card Game, where recent trademarks indicate that Mega Evolutions could be introduced this July. The Pokemon Company could set up the new game’s release to coincide with card sets featuring Mega Evolutions by releasing Pokemon Legends Z-A in August.
A tie-in like this would make sense considering that Mega Evolutions were introduced in Pokemon X and Y, the sixth generation of Pokemon set in the Kalos region. This is where Pokemon Legends: Z-A takes place, making the cross-promotion even more apt. To wit, the ending of the Pokemon Legends: Z-A announcement did tease the return of Mega Evolutions, thus making the cross-promotional tie-in even more likely.

This year’s event will surely give fans their first look at gameplay for Pokemon Legends: Z-A and its proper release date.
Whether the Amazon listing is true or not, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Pokemon Legends: Z-A release this Summer alongside the new Mega Evolution cards. While the August release date is a bit out of Pokemon’s typical element, The Pokemon Company has a great opportunity to tie the game into the newest Pokemon Trading Card Game expansion. No matter when the game releases, Pokemon Legends Z-A should serve as a fantastic swan song for the Pokemon series on the Nintendo Switch.
