For a while now, Xbox fans have had to put up with the fact that modern Final Fantasy games just weren’t coming to the system. Almost every big Final Fantasy game that has launched over the past five years has had PlayStation exclusivity, before eventually making the jump to PC a year or two later. However, now that Square Enix has admitted it can’t continue making its games exclusive, that could change very soon.
Ever since its change in leadership, and the reveal of disappointing sales for its big Final Fantasy titles, Square Enix has been flirting with the idea of more third-party releases. Now, a reliable insider called NateTheHate is claiming that Square Enix is finally getting ready to release Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth on Xbox in the near future.
Xbox Insider Says Final Fantasy 7 Remake And Rebirth Ports Are Coming
In the latest episode of NateTheHate’s podcast (in which he also claims that Xbox titles like Halo: Master Chief Collection and Flight Simulator will be coming to PS5), he talks about the mystery game that Xbox is teasing for its Developer Direct. While there were suggestions it could be the rumored remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, NateTheHate believes that Square Enix is going to be there with a few Final Fantasy games.
To start with, NateTheHate believes that the mystery game will be a shadow drop of Final Fantasy 16, a title which also skipped Xbox on launch. After that, he believes that Square Enix will confirm that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth are coming to the console. He then goes one step further by claiming that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is slated to launch on Xbox this year, while Rebirth is coming in 2026.
“I can confirm that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be coming to Xbox. Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released in 2025. Rebirth will follow in 2026. These games will also be coming to Nintendo Switch 2.”
This claim has since been backed up by other reputable insiders, such as WindowsCentral reporter Jez Corden, and we at TheGamer can also confirm having heard similar claims about Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth from our own sources. If all of these claims are fully accurate, then we should see a big showing from Final Fantasy and Square Enix at Xbox’s developer showcase.
Final Fantasy Rebirth is the second part of the FF7 Remake project. It continues the story of Cloud Strife, a former SOLDIER turned mercenary who joins Avalanche, a group of eco-terrorists seeking to save the planet from the malevolent Sephiroth. As the party pushes out of Midgar, leaving the Shinra Corporation devastated, where will their paths take them?
