My preference for my PS5 comes down to one simple thing – the controller.

Just like it did in 2022 and 2023, Xbox is kicking off the year with a Developer Direct that focuses on three big gamesDoom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. We’ve also been promised a reveal of a brand-new game from a “surprise studio”, which has everyone speculating about what it could be.

Xbox Insider Suggests The Developer Direct Is Bigger Than We Think

That already sounds like a big first showing for Xbox, but it seems that it could be a more exciting event than we all think. Over on Twitter, Windows Central’s editor-in-chief and reliable Xbox insider Jez Corden reacted to the event by saying that it “might be a lot bigger than Microsoft is letting on”.

Corden’s statement is vague enough that it could really mean anything, but there are a few possibilities. The first is that the mystery game that Xbox is revealing will be a big deal and not a smaller title from an unknown studio. Considering the last game that was revealed at a Developer Direct was Hi-Fi Rush, that’s pretty exciting to think about.

The other possibility is that the Developer Direct will reveal some big details about the games that are featured. While it’s very likely we’ll get a release date for at least one of the titles, Corden’s comment could suggest that more than one of the games will have a release window, and not just South of Midnight like many of us are expecting.

Whatever the case, it looks like there are a lot of potential reasons to get excited about Xbox’s Developer Direct in less than two weeks.
