Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is re-releasing in 2025 to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The original version, Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys, is much older but the remake, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, came out in 2005. Leveling up comes with the territory in most RPGs from turn-based to action-based. Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is no different as defeating enemies will award players with EXP and players can check their progression with a bar right above Adol’s health. Not having to navigate a menu to find out the EXP situation is a nice feature that more RPGs should add.
Another unique RPG feature is that players can increase the amount of EXP rewarded if they chain kills together. The more enemies they kill, the bigger the multiplier effect. Enemies will follow Adol in dungeons, so it’s not a bad idea to try and group them to get this boost higher.

Find Gems For Your Bracelets
Boost Your Magic
Players will start Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana with a basic sword attack like in the Zelda games. In the first dungeon, players will get their first magical item called the Ignis Bracelet which will add another attack to the player’s repertoire. This will allow players to shoot fireballs and charges will replenish over time, so there is no big need to down a bunch of MP items like in other RPGs.
Magical relics like the Ignis Bracelet can be strengthened by finding gems. Each magical relic has a corresponding gem attached that will upgrade it such as the Ruby for the Ignis Bracelet. If players find enough, these gems will increase the damage of magical relics, so it’s best to keep an eye out for them in dungeons.

Buying And Finding New Gear
A Classic Zelda Progression
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana shares a lot with the Zelda series like the item progression. Instead of finding loot drops, there are a set amount of weapons and gear that players can equip. For example, Adol will start with the Short Sword, Wooden Shield, and Leather Armor.
His next round of gear will contain the Long Sword, Chain Mail, and Small Shield and they will boost everything from attack power to defensive stats. Weapons and armor can be purchased via Cynthia’s store in town or gear can be found in dungeons. If players can help it, they may not want to buy the best stuff ASAP as that can drain Gold, the currency of this RPG, quickly. Plus one never knows what they may find in the next dungeon.

Upgrading Gear
Save That Ore
Equipping new gear is not the end all be all of increasing Adol’s stats. Players can also upgrade equipment via Gold and materials such as Raval Ore. Most Raval Ore deposits can be found in chests in dungeons and the material is quite rare in the early hours of the game.
The upgrade merchant, Adonis, is a blacksmith that resides in the same building as Cynthia in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana. Upgrading gear might be the better way to boost Adol’s stats instead of buying new gear completely early on. Like any RPG, players just have to buy gear and upgrade it in moderation which can be a tough balancing act.

Permanent Item Bumps
Drink That Katol Elixir Up
Besides gear, Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana will also sell Adol an item that will increase his HP. She’s a multifaceted shopkeeper and it saves players the extra cost of traveling to multiple locations in town. It’s called a Katol Elixir and it will cost a hefty fee of 10,000 Gold. Players, in no way, should buy this item right away but they shouldn’t forget about it either.

There is one final way players can boost Adol in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana and it’s only temporary. Like the kill-based EXP multiplier, players can find item drops from monsters. These can boost Adol’s stats but only temporarily while in battle.
Players may have around four bars going all at once above Adol’s health which can clutter the UI a bit. However, players will be thankful to have these boosts when they are surrounded by enemies. So again, these item drops aren’t permanent but it’s still a good way to keep Adol in shipshape fighting form for this latest action RPG.
