There are four main endgame events you can encounter in the Path of Exile 2 Atlas map: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. PoE 2 revives several seasonal mechanics from original Path of Exile Leagues as endgame events – the Ritual Altars encounter is modeled after the Ritual League.

Path of Exile 2: Burning Monolith Explained
The Burning Monolith is a special map on the Atlas of Worlds in Path of Exile 2 that requires three Crisis Fragments from the Citadels to activate.
This guide explains how to start Ritual events, mechanics to be aware of, how to interact with the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, the Pinnacle boss you may encounter, and the rewards you can get from the unique Tribute and Favour reward system in this PoE 2 endgame event.
PoE 2 Rituals & Altars, Explained
On the Atlas screen, map nodes with a guaranteed endgame event are marked with certain icons. Map nodes that contain a Ritual Altar will have a red icon with a pentagram and a demonic horned face.
You can guarantee Ritual encounters on map nodes in the Atlas screen with a Ritual Precursor Tablet, which can be slotted into a completed Lost Tower.
After spawning into a map with a Ritual encounter, a handful of Altars will spawn throughout the map. These Altars will spawn with a shared random modifier (per map) that changes the event with a new mechanic or enemy you must watch out for.
For example, one might spawn gigantic waves of rat enemies alongside other Ritual summons, while another might create waves of Blood that flow over the area and sap Life.
When you find an Altar, hover over it and take note of the Modifiers. Then, when you’re ready, interact with the Altar to spawn a gigantic wave of enemies.
The map will darken around a large circle surrounding the Altar – you must stay in the confined zone and kill all enemies to complete the Ritual. If you go into the shadows around the Altar area, the event will end and you will get no rewards.
Maps with Altars are considered Complete when you successfully complete every Ritual on the map.
Ritual Pinnacle Boss: The King In the Mists
Among the randomized Ritual rewards PoE 2 players can select from during an encounter, you may see something called ‘An Audience With The King’. This is a unique Currency item for the Ritual event that allows access to The Crux Of Nothingness, home of the Ritual Pinnacle Boss: the King in the Mists.

Greater Jeweller’s Orbs are socket currency items required to upgrade skill gems to a 4-link. Here’s how to get them.
If you get An Audience With The King, slot it into your Realmgate in the Atlas map to travel to the King in the Mists Pinnacle Boss fight.
The King in the Mists has essentially the same mechanics as the campaign version of the boss. If you need to practice, head back to Act 1 on Cruel and create a new instance of the Freythorn zone, where The King In The Mists spawns.
Defeating The King In The Mists will reward you with 2x Ritual Passive Skill points. The boss has a chance to drop one Unique from a selection of PoE 2 Uniques, too, as well as a host of powerful Currencies and Omen items.
Ritual Passive Skill Tree
In the Atlas Passive Skill Tree screen, the Ritual Passive Skill Tree adds modifiers to the Ritual event to make it more rewarding by reducing Tribute requirements, improving Ritual rewards, and increasing drop chances for unique Currencies.
To see your Ritual passives, PoE 2 players should open up the Atlas Map, open the Atlas Passive Skill Tree with the top-left button, and then look to the bottom right of the Atlas tree.
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree has a distinctly red coloration with five prongs that feature eight Notable nodes and eight nodes that increase the difficulty of the King in the Mists boss.

Running out of Waystones during the endgame mapping phase is a fairly common occurrence in Path of Exile 2. Here is how to ensure you never run out.
Because you are rewarded with 2x Ritual Passive Skill points whenever you beat the Crux of Nothingness, you must increase the difficulty of the Pinnacle encounter every time you go for a new Notable node.

These will increase the rewards you can get from Ritual encounters without too many drawbacks. After these, go for ‘Tempting Offers’ and ‘He Approaches’ to get more chances for high-value Omens and An Audience With The King.
PoE 2 Ritual Event Rewards
Tribute Is Used To Purchase Ritual Rewards
Completing a Ritual rewards a temporary currency called Tribute that can be exchanged for randomized items, called Favours. Completing more Altars increases your Tribute and unlocks more items to view within this reward screen, some of which are locked until you complete a certain number of Rituals on the map.
At first, the Favour items only cost a few hundred Tribute to purchase, and usually come in the form of Magic items or low-level Currencies. But as you complete more Rituals, and unlock more Rewards, Rare pieces of gear and high-tier Currencies may become unlocked in the Favour screen. The Audience With The King can only be obtained via Favours.

Path of Exile 2: Advanced Tips For PoE 2 Endgame
After reaching the endgame, these Path of Exile 2 advanced tips will help players thrive in the game’s relatively complex Atlas of Worlds system.
There is a chance for an extremely powerful item called an Omen to be among the Ritual Favour rewards, which can improve the effects of other Currency items when held in your inventory. Omen are consumed upon triggering their unique effects.
For example, the Omens of Annulment can make Orbs of Annulment only remove specific modifiers, while an Omen of Alchemy will only add certain modifiers when using an Orb of Alchemy.
PoE 2 Omen Currencies are highly, highly coveted by many PoE 2 players because they can significantly improve the chance to craft something powerful. If you aren’t sure if you want to use one, consider trading it for a boatload of other high-value currencies.
Aside from the rewards on offer via the Tribute and Favour system, enemies killed during Ritual Events can also reward regular high-tier Currencies like Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, and the like.
Unlike the Simulacrum boss, the King in the Mists only has a chance to drop Uniques on death, selected from a pool of Unique items that are exclusive to the Ritual event.
