- Marvel Studios makes cuts to benefit film quality, even with negative press.
There is a lot of anticipation surrounding the release of Captain America: Brave New World on February 14, 2025, given that this is the first movie in the franchise not led by Chris Evans. Anthony Mackie will be in the lead role for Captain America: Brave New World, once again carrying the shield as he has done since Avengers: Endgame.
However, the movie has dealt with various issues, from reshoots and script changes to negative early feedback. Considering this is such an essential character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is a lot of pressure on this film to deliver. Unfortunately, there’s more negative news after a top WWE Superstar confirmed they were cut from the movie.

Marvel Missed Out On The Perfect Way To Bring Chris Evans Back
Chris Evans is returning to the MCU, but Marvel had a perfect option to bring him back that was left on the table.
Former WWE Champion Seth Rollins revealed to Insight with Chris Van Vliet, “I wish it the best, but I am not part of that film. Well, does my NDA still apply if I’m not in the film anymore? Truth be told, any answer I gave would only be my opinion on it. The script went through a lot of rewrites and reshoots, so what I was there to do, essentially, my role either got repurposed or completely erased. Yeah, my understanding was there were just a lot of rewrites and a lot of reshoots, and they know they’ve got a finished product that hopefully they’re happy with, and hopefully it’s successful. But it will be sans Seth Rollins. I’m not in the movie. I will say unequivocally I’m not in the film. I do not want anybody to go to the film thinking, ‘I’m here to see Seth Rollins.'”
Even though Rollins wasn’t going to be one of the lead characters in the film, the decision to cut him after he filmed his part isn’t a good look for Marvel Studios or this movie generally. Rollins was seen on the set of the film in 2023 and had been rumored to be playing the character of Cobra in the Serpent Society. Interestingly, his wife and fellow WWE wrestler Becky Lynch also underwent a similar experience as she had her role cut from the MCU’s Eternals, proving that even some of the biggest entertainers aren’t safe from major changes.
The trailers for Captain America: Brave New World have shown some interesting scenes taking place, and seeing the character continue with Mackie in the lead role will be intriguing at the least. Adding in Red Hulk has the potential to make this movie entertaining, too, and the changes that Marvel made ultimately should be done to benefit the quality of the film. It’s unknown what the movie would have looked like if Rollins’ part hadn’t been cut, but it’s a choice Marvel believes in.
Cutting specific characters from movies is nothing new and will continue over the years. It’s an unfortunate evil of the movie business as edits take place, but it is a worrying situation for this particular project. Captain America: Brave New World has suffered a lot of negative press, and this piece of information isn’t going to aid that situation. Fortunately, it shouldn’t negatively impact the movie too much.
Captain America: Brave New World (formerly titled New World Order) marks Sam Wilson’s first MCU big-screen appearance as Steve Rogers’ successor after receiving the suit and shield in Phase 4’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie returns as the titular Avenger alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumby as Isaiah Bradley, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Incredible Hulk’s former ally Samuel Sterns. Harrison Ford makes his MCU debut replacing the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross.
