Over the last few weeks, the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch Successor, or Super Nintendo Switch, whichever you choose to call it, has become gaming’s worst-kept secret. Accessories for the console first leaked online; then a YouTuber was sent a mock-up of a Switch 2, the Joy-Cons were seen, prices and games appeared online, and, at CES, accessory manufacturer Genki showed off a dummy of the hardware.

In typical Nintendo fashion, the Japanese giants had, until recently, remained quiet, letting the online rumor mill do its thing. But, as more and more has leaked, Nintendo made a rare comment on the situation.
Switch 2 Leaks Are “Not Official”, Says Nintendo
Speaking to Japanese publication Sankei (via VGC), Nintendo simply said, “These images and videos are not official.”
These images and videos are not official.
It’s unlike Nintendo to comment on rumor and speculation, but what they’ve said here is about as useful as it saying nothing. Mock-ups and dummies are, of course, not official hardware, and until something comes from Nintendo itself, it won’t be official, but it’s a comment nonetheless.
Despite the numerous leaks, a former Nintendo employee suggested that Nintendo would feel under no pressure to change its plans. Speaking on Twitter, former PR representative for Nintendo Krysta Yang said, “As wild as these leaks are, Nintendo is going to stick to their plan.”
What that plan is, we won’t know for sure, but with Nintendo confirming it will announce the Switch 2 at some point this fiscal year, we have a maximum of a couple of months to wait. The likelihood is, though, that it will be much, much sooner.
