In one of the latest examples of this trend, accessory maker Genki showcased a purported replica of the Switch successor at the 2025 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Images of the company’s dummy device immediately started making the rounds on social media.

Rumor: 2022 Open-World RPG May Be Coming to Nintendo Switch 2

Some newly emerged evidence suggests a 2022 open-world ARPG is currently in the process of being ported to the Nintendo Switch 2.

In a rare move, Nintendo issued a comment on this leaked design following an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun. “It is not official,” a company representative told the Japanese outlet, referring to the images and videos of Genki’s Switch 2 replica. Elaborating on this point, Nintendo clarified that it is not participating in CES 2025 in any shape or form, so none of the Switch 2 imagery emerging from the trade show can be considered official promo materials.

Official or Not, Genki’s Nintendo Switch 2 Replica Could Be Accurate

Nintendo didn’t reflect on the accuracy of Genki’s Switch 2 replica. Regardless, the dummy device could be a faithful representation of the upcoming console, not least because it’s consistent with recent leaks and rumors about the device. Aside from being slightly larger than the Switch, the biggest difference between the replica and the 2017 console is the fact that the former features an additional button. Shaped like the left Joy-Con’s square capture button, it’s positioned below the right Joy-Con’s home button and marked “C,” though its function remains unknown.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai didn’t have any information on the mysterious C button but did share some other alleged details about the Switch 2, including the claim that the console’s Joy-Cons will attach magnetically to the device rather than relying on sliding rails. He also asserted that the controllers will be able to be used like a mouse—a possibility that was already raised by several other sources.

Over the course of last year, Nintendo has twice said it will unveil the Switch successor during its fiscal year 2024, which concludes on March 31, 2025. There are 80 more days for the company to make good on that promise. The console itself isn’t likely to hit the store shelves until the second quarter of 2025 at the earliest. In terms of pricing, the Switch 2 is rumored to retail in the ballpark of $399.
