Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Reaches Impressive Sales Milestone

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Reaches Impressive Sales Milestone

Following its release late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is reportedly enjoying some major success in terms of sales, recently breaking over 200,000 sales as fans flock to revisit the classic action game. Despite releasing to some technical issues and accusations of censorship, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is proving to be a hit, with sales numbers showing a clear demand for the game.

Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, known for its unique action games like the No More Heroes series, Lollipop Chainsaw is an action hack-and-slash title that puts players in the shoes of a cheerleader battling zombies with a chainsaw. The original developer did not return to handle the game’s remaster, however, which was developed by Dragami Games, who added some quality-of-life features and a major visual overhaul.

Lollipop Chainsaw reveals a loaded collector’s edition for its upcoming remake that includes a Juliet statue, an art book, and other goodies.

Now, several months after the remaster’s launch in September 2024, the game has reportedly sold over 200,000 copies across all available platforms, which include all current and last-gen systems and PC. This information comes following a tweet from Dragami Games, which stated that that game had surpassed this major sales milestone recently.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Developers Celebrate The Game’s Sales Success

The story in Lollipop Chainsaw puts players in the shoes of Juliet Starling, a cheerleader for San Romero High School who must reveal her lineage as a zombie hunter when her school is overrun by the undead. Players will engage in combat with hordes of zombies and unique bosses using Juliet’s signature chainsaw in hack-and-slash combat akin to the likes of Bayonetta and other classic third-person action titles.

The original version of the game on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 enjoyed an even higher level of success, though, reportedly selling over a million units when it first released in 2012. A big portion of the appeal of Lollipop Chainsaw may have come from the unique collaboration between iconic game designer Goichi Suda and Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn, who helped with the game’s story and writing.

As of right now, there is no information as to whether the sales success of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will spawn any follow-up content or even a potential sequel, but it seems to be a good sign for remasters of more niche games in general. In fact, another Grasshopper Manufacture title also recently received an update with the release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered across all current platforms, bringing the action-horror title to modern hardware and audiences.
