How to Beat Ellefale in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

How to Beat Ellefale in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana may chronologically replace Ys 3, but it is still a great place for new players to dive into the game. This game gives players their first real challenge with Dularn, but Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death, is in a whole other league. It is also very important to note that players do not want to get anywhere near this boss. Being up close and personal will mean her attacks will connect far more frequently.

This boss can take quite a hefty amount of damage at the game’s normal difficulty, but can seem incredibly daunting if players try their first go at the game on a higher difficulty. However, this is not an impossible task to accomplish thanks to the Ignis Bracelet.

How to Beat Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death

Ys Memoire_ The Oath in Felghana Ellefale Azure Queen of death-1

There are games that don’t require much grinding, but this is not one of those cases. Players should grind so that their health is above 100. They can also take some Raval Ore to upgrade their Armor, but it is best to save this ore for better armor later on.

Players may be tempted to charge into battle the moment the fight starts, but this is a bad idea. Not only will this put them at risk of taking far more damage, but Ellefale is actually just out of reach of their basic attacks.

Luckily, players can shoot fireballs using their Ignis Bracelet to damage her. The closer you are, the more likely you are to be hit, so stay on the far other end of the arena. Ellefale does not have that much of an arsenal, but each one of them hits very hard and can deplete the player’s health bar much faster than they like.

2025 marks the 30th birthday of these games that were released in 1995 for the PlayStation 1. Here’s which ones to revisit.

Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death Attacks

Some of Ellefale’s attacks are not too bad on their own. However, they can each deny parts of the arena where the player can safely move. This makes positioning very important. There are 4 attacks in Ellefale’s arsenal:

  • A spinning disc attack
  • A vertical slashing attack
  • Multiple strikes of lighting
  • A slow-moving spinning sphere

Spinning Disc

The first of her attacks will be a spinning disc that will launch from Ellefale’s position towards the player. There is not enough time to make it from one end of the arena to the other, so the only way to avoid this is to jump. Jump too soon, and you’ll take damage upon landing on the disc. Players will need sharp reflexes. If they time it too late, and the disc will deal damage before your jump is high enough to dodge it.

Overall, this is a dangerous attack that will cost players large chunks of their life, and even a couple fights against Ellefale. However, Ellefale will telegraph this move when she raises her right arm. This move alone makes for an intense boss fight.

Vertical Slash

This thin blade-like attack is far easier to avoid. Simply running left or right will be enough to avoid it. There will be times Ellefale has multiple different attacks up at the same time, meaning players may need to move to the side while jumping to avoid a spinning disc at the same time. This move is telegraphed by Ellefale raising her right arm.

Lightning strike

Attacks like this one make for some challenging combat. This is the hardest of Ellefale’s abilities to avoid. She will telegraph it by leaning forward, at which point you will need to charge forward. When she is raising both her arms, run back towards the opposite end of the arena jump. Beams of lighting will be shot at the player, and if they are running or jumping towards Ellefale, they will be hit. Jumping while running away will cause the player to be in a safe spot away from the lightning.

Spinning Sphere

Ellefale will create a spinning sphere that will slowly move towards the player. This can deny the player parts of the arena to safely move into. On its own, it is easy to outrun, but if another projectile comes at the player, it can box them in — which can make this boss quite frustrating. Ellefale’s telegraph for this move will be when she raises both her wings.
