This is major, especially as Fujimoto is known for much more than just the movie, given that he’s the mangaka of the hugely popular anime and manga by the name of Chainsawman. Look Back was widely acclaimed as one of the best movies of last year, and surprisingly managed to garner praise from those unfamiliar with Fujimoto as well.

The Highest Rated Animation of 2024 on Letterboxd

Letterboxd has officially revealed its highest-rated animations. 2024’s highest-rated animated movie on Letterboxd is revealed to be Look Back. The animation for Look Back is taken from the one-shot web manga released by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Fans might know Tatsuki Fujimoto more for his hugely successful work Chainsaw Man.

The film adaptation of this one shot was done by Studio Durian and made its debut in June of 2024.

What is Look Back About?

Look Back, written by Tatsuki Fujimoto, follows the story of Ayumu Fujino, a talented, but young elementary school artist. Her meeting with Kyomoto, a very talented artist, changes the course of her life. At first there are some tensions from Fujino’s side, but they eventually become friends and draw together.

Other Animated Series That Made it To The Top 10 on Letterboxd

In second place, only being beaten by Look Back, is The Wild Robot. Unlike Look Back, this movie is based on a novel, and not a manga.

In third place, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle solidifies its spot. This movie has been anticipated for a long time, as Karasuno advances at the Nationals, having to take on one of their fierce rivals, Nekoma, to make it to the next round.

In 4th place is a movie known as Memoir of a Snail. This animated stop-motion movie tells the story of Grace Pudel with all its tragedies.

In 5th place is the movie titled Flow, which follows the tale of a black cat.

The other movies that were in the remaining spots include Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, Mononoke The Movie: Phantom In The Rain, Transformers One, The Missing, and Ultraman: Rising respectively.
