Marvel Rivals Adds Ability To Vote To Surrender Match

One of Marvel Rivals‘ biggest strengths is its unique and fun character designs for the existing universe of characters it has access to. However, it’s a hero shooter, so of course it won’t just stick with one design, it will have various skins you can acquire for each character.

Marvel Rivals: Every Hitscan Character, Ranked

Line up the perfect shot with the most powerful hitscan characters in Marvel Rivals.

There are skins that are brand-new designs for the game, others are from comics both new and old, and the rest are from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some of these MCU skins translate really well into the art-style and character designs of the game, while others don’t quite fit as seamlessly.

Groot – Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Marvel Rivals Groot MCU Skin.

In terms of a direct translation of live-action to the game’s art-style, this Groot skin is perfect recreation. The problem is that, even in the movie, this look for Groot was…not the best. In Marvel Rivals, it is a bit better, but not by much.

The accuracy doesn’t change the fact that the design itself is very bland and a bit on the strange side. It sees Groot covered in all white bark and a little bulkier, going away from his thinner, more traditional look. This ends up making him look slightly like he sat in a New York City park for too long next to the pigeons, if you know what we mean.

10

Loki – Loki Season 2

Marvel Rivals Loki MCU Skin.

Coming from Loki’s final design in Loki Season 2, this makes Loki look a bit more like Tom Hiddleston, as well as giving him larger horns and changing his outfit to a cloak and robe with various shades of green.

This is a case where accuracy ends up hurting the design. The game is not a realistic style, so trying to turn the character models into real-life actors ends up giving a weird vibe and throwing the whole look off. Not to mention that, while a great design in the show, this appearance is a huge step-down in terms of details and style from Loki’s default game design.

9

Scarlet Witch – Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness

Marvel Rivals Scarlet Witch MCU Skin.

Similar to the Loki Season 2 skin, the main drawback of this skin being in the game for Scarlet Witch is in comparison to her standard skin for the game.

Marvel Rivals: 7 Most Satisfying Ultimates

While there are many strong ultimates in Marvel Rivals, some of them feel far too satisfying to use.

Scarlet Witch’s default design is a lot more intricate than this one, which doesn’t necessarily make it better, but it does leave one a little lacking in comparison. The suit is great, but also isn’t completely comic accurate, so it doesn’t fully commit to the idea, leaving it a little lackluster in the end.

Spider-Man – Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel Rivals Spider-Man MCU Skin.

Spider-Man’s iron-spider suit, first introduced in Avengers: Infinity War (at least, the MCU variant of it), was received warmly by fans, but has since lost its popularity as it became the “default” suit for him in the movies with No Way Home, and made its way to many other forms of media as well. Including Marvel Rivals, of course.

The main reason for this is that it makes Spidey feel like he relies too much on Tony Stark’s tech, rather than being the boy genius engineer we know he is. In terms of the translation to the game, the suit fits relatively well with the other designs as well as the Spider-Man character model, but the stigma that comes along with the suit still hangs in the air.

7

Adam Warlock – Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Marvel Rivals Adam Warlock MCU Skin.

Another MCU Skin that tries to take an actor’s likeness, this one does a slightly better job than Loki, but still ends up having that uncanny valley look. This suit is Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock design from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The head, while being a slightly better rendition than the Tom Hiddleston design, still ends up looking a bit off. This is because it tries to re-define the jaw, while also changing the hair, which doesn’t fit very well on his body. However, the actual design of the suit looks great, and gives a nice change of pace from the default skin while still looking like it fits in the game.

6

Black Widow – Black Widow (2021)

Marvel Rivals Black Widow MCU Skin.

While the movie may have not made many waves, the MCU-inspired suit for Black Widow fits perfectly in Marvel Rivals, and has made the transition quite well.

Black Widow’s look in Marvel Rivals is a bit on the higher-tech side, matching her ability kit. This suit is a great, simplified design for those that want a more classic look. It is an all-white suit with the same hair that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow rocks in the film, being more on the orange side of redhead than the pure red that the comics go for.

5

Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, And Mantis – Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

These are the last of the skins from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and they are all the same suits placed on Rocket, Mantis, and Star-Lord. These are arguably the best of the GOTG 3 bunch, giving a fresh design for the characters while also not looking too out of place.

Mantis and Rocket look the same in terms of their models, but Star-Lord has been given a slightly different (and exposed) face, as well as brown hair and facial hair, to look more like Chris Pratt. And it works, it doesn’t have an uncanny valley look and actually fits quite well into the art-style of the game.

4

Namor – Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Marvel Rivals Namor MCU Skin.

Now this is a skin that, while showing his human face similar to the actor from the movie, made an excellent transition from screen to…well, smaller screen.

This skin simplifies Namor’s design a bit, but in exchange has some striking blue and green colors with gold accents, accessories, and a great face sculpt. The Aztec-inspired design motifs from the movie work well to distinguish the skin in the game’s roster.

3

Iron Man – Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel Rivals Iron Man MCU Skin.

This is one of those designs that, while not being particularly loved in the live-action scene, translates perfectly into the world of Marvel Rivals. By the time this advanced, nanotech suit for Tony Stark appeared in the MCU, many fans missed the more stocky, grounded yet still futuristic design of his original suits.

However, in the world of Marvel Rivals, this advanced tech fits right in. The art-style of the game leans heavily into the idea of advanced designs and a futuristic aesthetic for many of the characters, Iron Man included. So the suit fits perfectly into the world, and compliments the character’s abilities as well.

2

Thor – Thor: Love & Thunder

Marvel Rivals Thor MCU Skin.

Regardless of your opinion on Thor: Love & Thunder, this is a great costume for Thor. The default design is very classic Norse mythology-inspired, which is great. This one just lets you get a bit more flair and comic book style.

You get vibrant red, blue and yellow colors, a more intricate design, a new face sculpt and hair color which fits with the skin while not looking out of place. You even get a unique cracked/reforged design for Mjolnir, which is a nice touch.

1

Wolverine – Deadpool & Wolverine

Marvel Rivals Wolverine MCU Skin.

This outfit from Deadpool and Wolverine is just a comic adaptation of Wolverine’s signature blue and yellow suit, but it still has its own MCU flair. That look, then translated into the game, works perfectly and makes for one of the most striking skins the game has to offer.

Not only does it completely change Logan’s outfit, for those that aren’t a fan of his default design, but it lets you get a very classic, comic-inspired look for your character, and the blue and yellow colors contrast beautifully in the game’s art-style. The suit was one of the best aspects of the movie, and it is also one of the best parts of this game as well.
